After the phenomenal second installment of Kalokalike, ABS-CBN’s ‘It’s Showtime’ has discovered another gem in their show with the launch of their newest segment – That’s My Tomboy. The competition features young lesbians showing off their good looks, oozing charisma, and seemingly boyish fashion & style.
The show also serves as a platform for the contestants to showcase their various talents, whether it’s through singing, dancing, or even acting. And like any other beauty pageants, the audience can also look forward to their amusing version of the Q&A portion and to Vice Ganda’s witty quips while interviewing the contestants. (Vice: What’s with lesbians and white shoes?) Random Republika Team: Umm, we notice it a lot too and don’t know the answer as well.

The segment has been receiving overwhelming response so far especially on social media. Today’s weekly finals has trended locally and even worldwide (Twitter Hashtag: #ThatsMyTomboy)

BREAKING BARRIERS
Gay beauty pageants have been a pretty common thing in the Philippines now whether they happen on national TV or whether they are organized during fiestas in your local barangays. Thanks to the likes of Eat Bulaga’s Super Sireyna, we have become very much accustomed to seeing our fabulous becky sisters pitting against each other on the pageant stage. But, lesbians in a competition?
Thanks to It’s Showtime and the geniuses behind it as it has used the show as a platform to come up with a creative concept that has never been seen on TV, but at the same time deliver an advocacy to break barriers about certain homo stereotypes. (Cue Lady Gaga: *applause, applause, applause*)
When the contestants were asked about the importance of joining a competition like ‘That’s my Tomboy,’ here are a few standout answers we’ve compiled:
  • “para po matangap ng tao kung ano kami, kung pano kami makapagpasaya ng ibang tao…”
  • “di lang mga gays, straight na lalake at babae ang may talents…”
  • “respetuhin niyo po ang lahat ng mga genders.”
  • “Ito na po yung time para sa amin. Meron din kaming mabubuting puso.”
  • “We are born to be true, not to be perfect.”
This week’s winners are Phao, Kim, Rhaz, and Epey (photographed below):
(Btw, Epey reminds us so much of Daniel Padilla)

We are very much excited to see how the segment will roll out in the coming weeks. But we do hope that this will serve as an inspiration and eye-opener to other people about the life-stories and the hidden world of Pinay lesbians.
Like the contestants’ parents who supported their children while competing in the show, we should also do our part as supportive audiences applauding the talents and successes of these young people.
