Kapamilya Teen Queen Kathryn Bernardo is celebrating her 20th birthday today. Photos of Kathryn spending her birthday in the exclusive Balesin island with friends and KathNiel loveteam partner Daniel Padilla have been surfacing online since yesterday. We have yet to see any official photo from the birthday girl herself.

Meanwhile, Star Magic, Kathryn’s talent management, uploaded a couple of throwback videos and birthday greetings from her immediate family and a very close friend. They all have an anecdote or two about the young superstar as a daughter, niece, sister, and friend.

#SPOTLIGHTonKATHRYN #HAPPY20thQueenKath — At the age of 4, she knew that she wanted to be an actress and faced all challenges head on. Kathryn Chandria Manuel Bernardo, who is celebrating her 20th birthday today, is originally from Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija. She is the youngest of 4 children of Daddy Ted and Momny Min. Her interest in the entertainment industry started when she learned about it through her sister Tin, who would audition and attend go-sees. She was instantly fascinated and told her parents that she’s ready. Supportive of her dreams, Daddy Ted would drive her to and from Cabanatuan just to attend auditions. Young as she was, Kathryn never complained and inately knew that these were necessary to achieve her goals. Slowly, she got modelling projects and was soon considered for bit roles on TV. #TatakStarMagic

#SPOTLIGHTonKATHRYN #HAPPY20thQueenKath — Many doors were opened for Kathryn as she became a part if Goin’ Bulilit. She was 10 years old and was being considered for short but significant drama roles. She was the young Andrea Del Rosario in Gulong Ng Palad, the young Shaina Magdayao in Komiks Presents: Agua Bendita then landed another regular show as the girl inspiration of Makisig Morales in Super Inggo. In October 2008, Kathryn graduated from Goin’ Bulilit. Her studies took most of her time but she also did guestings for Maalalaala Mo Kaya, Your Song Presents and dubbed for the animation, Super Inggo At Ang  Super Tropa. Kathryn’s acting was commended in Magkaribal when she played the role of Anna Abella, the young Gretchen Barretto, who went through several tragedies in the series. This proved that Kathryn is ready to lead on a drama soap. As luck would have it, casting was being made for the remake of yhe 90’s drama classic, Mara Clara, topbilled by Judy Ann Santos and Gladys Reyes. This time, Kathryn was chosen along with Julia Montes to be the lead stars. The show had consistent high ratings and made Julia who played Clara and Kathryn who played Mara, household names. This led to several road shows and endorsements together. And were soon cast in the teen show, Growing Up. #TatakStarMagic

#SPOTLIGHTonKATHRYN #HAPPY20thQueenKath — Kathryn was not only busy in television but was visible in the movies as well. After all her first movie appearance was in Dekada ’70, where she was discovered. Her next appearancr was in the fantasy comedy, Vhong Navarro starrer, Gagamboy. She then played the young Claudine Barretto in the horror drama, Nasaan Ka Man. She was also cast in the period action movie, Tatlong Baraha and did a short film with Ms. Marilou Diaz-Abaya and Mr. Enrico Santos, entitled Isperma Espiritu. Kathryn also did an appearance in the comedy, Supahpapalicious. Finally, after the success of Mara Clara, her first major movie break came when she starred along with Julia Montes in Way Back Home, a drama about 2 siblings that were separated for 12 years. #TatakStarMagic

Since the family moved to Manila and Dad was left in Cabanatuan to attend to their family business, Kathryn would always be delighted to see her Dad in their QC home once every two weeks. Her joy comes from eating food prepared by her father: Chicken Pork Adobo, Sinigang na Baka sa Bayabas and Spaghetti. And though Kathryn may be the Teen Queen, she doesn’t get special treatment when it comes to chores at home. She does her share just like any other teen. Her parents are also honored that Kathryn was true to her promises and thankful that she remains to be humble inspite of all of her successes. #TatakStarMagic

#SPOTLIGHTonKATHRYN #HAPPY20thQueenKath — Having a pet lover for a family, Kath grew up around dogs and is very hands on caring for them even as a child. She bathes, plays and lies with them all the time. She loves dogs so much that she bought a Shih Tzu with her first paycheck. Her sister Kaye reveals that one thing that can bring Kathryn down is when one of her pets get sick. When Kathryn heard about Cara Welfare Philippines, she became a supporter right away. CARA is a non- government, non-profit organization that aims to address animal over population and promotes proper care of pets. Now, Kathryn has 4 dogs, her favorite of which is Cloud, a Golden Retriever that you may have seen in a lot of her Instagram posts. #TatakStarMagic
