It was during the International Luxury Travel Market (ILTM), the event’s inaugural year in Singapore back in May, when I had the fancy opportunity of staying in a luxurious Ritz-Carlton Suite Room. Prior to my first stay in a Ritz, I have never really fully understand why luxury business travelers stay loyal to this hotel brand. For some leisure guests, Ritz-Carltons look a little bit stiff and formal from the outside.
Upon my arrival at the hotel reception, I was treated with topnotch and personal service right away. “Is it challenging to be a regional sales & marketing manager for a travel magazine,” asked the person who assisted me with my check-in. It felt intrusive at first, but I was amazed at the amount of information they gather and know about their guests.
While waiting for my room to be ready, the receptionist escorted me to the club lounge (located on the 32nd floor) first to hang there for a while while I indulge in their complimentary food. I picked a table by the window and had the beautiful panoramic view of the Marina area in front of me while I devoured my lunch.
I also met the marketing team behind the hotel, Nathalyn and Sam. Both gorgeous ladies made amazing efforts to make sure that my stay was an ultra-comfy and memorable one.
Impressed is an understatement, but I was in awe how attentive the staff were of my presence. Whenever I walk around the lobby area, most of the staff would greet me by my name: “Good day, Mr. Avis.” I’ve never experienced such VIP treatment in any of my hotel stays in the past—although this was an exception as I’m attending on behalf of my publisher—the hotel’s facilities and the service of the staff exceeded my expectations nonetheless.
My Deluxe Suite was insanely beautiful. At 72 sq. m., the warm neutral tones of the spacious room perfectly complemented the Marina Bay as its backdrop. With large windows too, the suite had sufficient natural light entering the room.
Come night time, the scene inside quickly changes to one that’s full of glam and glitter.
After 10 years of living in Singapore, seeing the glorious city lights and skyline of Raffles and Marina at night still fascinates me—and from an angle atop the hotel, nothing’s more humbling than looking at the Singapore city view.
During my first day at the hotel, the lovely Ritz-Carlton team gave me a box of macarons which also bore the ILTM letters. The macarons were also in various yummy flavors—some with a fun, local twist such as laksa filling.
The crowning glory of it all was the suite’s grand marble bathroom (which was probably as big as any common bedroom in a HDB flat!). The bathtub is a scene-stealer. I was advised though by one of the hotel staff to pull down the window shade if I plan to go all out while soaking in the tub. Unfortunately, the window is not tinted and people from nearby buildings might peep and see you in all your glory.
After my three nights at the Ritz, I have finally stumbled upon my new favorite hotel brand, most especially for business.
