Through the years, movies tackling the misfortunes and struggles of overseas Filipino workers abroad have been featured in the big screen. Top-of-mind themes that made a mark in the industry are stories of maltreatment, discrimination, abuse, imprisonment, and failed relationships. Active Media Events Production, in partnership with Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), is proud to present their latest project that chooses to focus on the other side — the success stories of Filipino migrant workers. The film given the title OFW The Movie aims to inspire our kababayans here and abroad with stories of winning and making it big in the midst of hardships.

Bankable stars are part of the cast with main characters portrayed by Sylvia Sanchez, Christian Vasquez, Rafael Rosell, Kakai Bautista, and Dianne Medina. The film also stars John Regala, Mel Kimura, Regine Angeles, Helga Krapf, Kate Brios, Mark Neumann, Uno Santiago, Dave Bornea, and Baby Go of BG Productions International. The film is directed by Neal “Buboy” Tan.

Based on true stories

Kakai Bautista and Sylvia Sanchez give life to the stories of two domestic helpers who transformed their lives for the better by working hard abroad.

Five true-to-life stories featured in OFW The Movie capture and present the strength of the Filipino spirit and strong love for family. The stories are narrated by former OWWA Deputy Administrator Arnel Ignacio.

During our intimate press conference for the movie two weeks ago, lead stars Kakai Bautista and Sylvia Sanchez expressed their admiration for OFWs. The two found a better appreciation for our Filipino workers abroad after giving life to two successful characters, both domestic helpers who experienced a positive turnaround in their lives because of working out of the country. Kakai’s character worked in Singapore while Sylvia’s was based in the Middle East.
