There are films where strong casting promises brilliance but when the writing is poor or the execution falls short, that brilliance is wasted. Until She Remembers, however, becomes a beautiful cinematic memory of how three actresses from different generations come together, each delivering performances in full strength. This is not to forget that highly acclaimed director Brillante Mendoza worked his filming magic again!

Sparkle artist Barbie Forteza showed maturity for her age, proving herself a class act in acting. How she turned into a teenager with her intentional yet effortless-looking nuances was impressive. This also ranks among Charo Santos-Concio’s finest performances, carrying her character with such depth and emotional rawness. Boots Anson Roa-Rodrigo, despite having minimal dialogue, created a powerful presence and impact.

The supporting performances of Albert Martinez and Angel Aquino helped complete the emotional needs of the story, while the younger actresses portraying the younger versions of Charo’s and Boots’ characters, Angela Latorre and Bianca Kierulf, delivered impressive performances — surprisingly, this being their first film project.

Director Brillante Mendoza handled the intimate scene with sensitivity and taste, allowing it to add emotional texture and a strong background to help the audience understand and feel the love shared between the characters in their younger years.

The film also opens space for a narrative less explored in Philippine cinema — a same-sex relationship between two women portrayed with emotional honesty. It gently reminds viewers that not all love stories end the way the characters hope, but many unfold with beautiful life lessons.

This goes beyond being just a film about memory. It is a film that becomes a beautiful one.

Produced by Solar Studios, Inc. (SSI) and written and directed by Brillante Mendoza, Until She Remembers is a dramatic movie about selflessness, sacrifice, and true love.

The story follows a struggling high school student (Barbie Forteza) who, amid the painful brokenness of her family (Angel Aquino and Albert Martinez), seeks refuge with her grandmother (Charo Santos-Concio). Through her grandmother’s quiet strength and the presence of a lifelong companion (Boots Anson-Roa), she begins to understand that life’s most important lessons cannot be learned from books but from experience.

Running for 1 hour and 47 minutes and rated PG by the MTRCB, the film reflects on memory, absence, and the quiet truth that love remains even when memory fades.

Until She Remembers is now showing in more than 140 cinemas nationwide.
