The recent launch of “Isang Himala,” a new adaptation of the classic Filipino film and musical, was a night to remember. Laughter, tears, and powerful music filled the air as the cast and crew came together to celebrate this exciting entry to the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival.
Honoring the Past, Embracing the Present
The event brought together a talented team, including Aicelle Santos, who takes on the legendary role of Elsa, originally played by Nora Aunor. Directed by Pepe Diokno, known for his award-winning film “Gomburza,” and written by the original screenwriter, National Artist Ricky Lee, “Isang Himala” promises a fresh perspective on a timeless story.
The premiere included a screening of the film’s trailer, which gave the audience a taste of the beautiful visuals and emotional intensity that await them. The trailer culminated with a surprise: the voice of Nora Aunor herself, sending shivers down everyone’s spine.
National Artist Ricky Lee spoke about why he felt it was important to bring “Isang Himala” back to the screen. “Para sa akin itong ginagawa namin ngayon ay isang tribute sa pelikulang nagawa noong 1982. Mula noong ipalabas ito noon, matapos ay naging musikal sa entablado at ngayon naman ay naging pelikula base sa musical. Sa palagay ko patuloy itong magkakaroon ng iba’t ibang bersyon at magpapatuloy pa ang pagkukwento natin ng tungkol sa himala.” He stressed the need to connect with today’s viewers while staying true to the heart of the original story.
A Journey of Faith and Emotion
Director Pepe Diokno shared his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the film’s exploration of human struggles and the complexities of faith. “Isang Himala” delves into the darker side of hope, asking difficult questions about belief and the choices people make when faced with extraordinary circumstances.
One of the night’s most powerful moments came when Aicelle Santos performed “Gawin Mo Akong Sining,” one of the film’s signature songs. Her emotional delivery brought tears to her eyes and moved the audience deeply. Santos spoke about the challenge of stepping into such a famous role, and her desire to honor the original while bringing her own unique interpretation to Elsa’s journey.
A Legacy of Powerful Storytelling
Produced by CreaZion Studios, known for their thought-provoking films like “Iska” and “Patay na Si Hesus,” “Isang Himala” represents a commitment to telling meaningful stories that resonate with Filipino audiences. Bituin Escalante, who plays Elsa’s mother, expressed her appreciation for the producers’ dedication to bringing these kinds of stories to life.
The launch event concluded with a performance of the film’s iconic song, “Ang Himala ay Nasa Puso,” by the entire cast, leaving the audience eager to experience the film’s emotional power for themselves.
“Isang Himala” opens in theaters nationwide on December 25th as part of the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival.
