Alisah Bonaobra dives into songwriting with new single ‘Walang Iwanan’
RJA Productions’ artist Alisah Bonaobra is a talented singer who is passionate about continuously improving her craft. Even with her string of achievements, among them being The Voice of the Philippines Season 2 first runner-up, a top contender in X Factor UK 2017, Eat Bulaga’s Just Duet top 5 grand finalist, getting the lead role (alternate) in PETA’s original hit musical Rak of Aegis V.5.0, Alisah never rests on her laurels. She continues to undergo music training, currently she is taking up Bachelor of Music, Major in Music Theater at the University of Sto. Tomas.
She humbly admits that she is proactive when it comes to improving her talents and skills by learning everything and anything about music. Alisah’s passion to improve as a singer led her to explore another facet of music – songwriting, which enabled her to create an original composition titled, “Walang Iwanan”.

Alisah stated, “I was amazed how this song came to my mind with both melody and lyrics at the same time, it felt surreal. I composed “Walang Iwanan” in 2020, the year when the Covid-19 pandemic was at its peak, the same year that my family unfortunately lost our grandfather. I wrote the song while I was trying to sleep. I was really anxious at that time so I started to hum some music in my mind and also thought of the lyrics as well. I was encouraging myself to never lose hope because God will always be by my side. I recorded it using my phone’s voice recorder, that’s what I do when I can’t sleep, and usually, I will just save it for myself.”
What was just a personal calming mental exercise to put her to sleep turned into a new song for Alisah that will be released by her management label RJA Productions, LLC. Alisah shared how this came about, “One night, at our RJA Productions’ virtual meeting, our very supportive manager, Tita Rosabella told us to try composing our own songs. I told her that I recently finished one called “Walang Iwanan”. She listened to it and believed in my composition and told me that she would like to release it officially under RJA Productions.”
Alisah added, “I made some minor changes to the lyrics after I took online songwriting classes. One day, Tita Rosabella surprised me by saying that the music arrangement was already done. I was delighted when I listened to the final output. We officially recorded the audio in the studio last year, followed by weeks of dance rehearsals as preparation for the official music video.”
“Almost a year and a half of finalizing everything and now “Walang Iwanan” will be out officially on all digital platforms worldwide on July 8 with the music video debuting on July 15. I just couldn’t believe that I wrote it and that I can now be considered as a singer-songwriter!” she exclaimed. With the release of her first composition, Alisah said that it has motivated her to write more original materials. “It’s so inspiring that my manager, Tita Rosabella, encourages me to believe in my capabilities as an artist. Honestly, being trusted with someone else’s song and letting me interpret it, is a really great opportunity, but singing my own composition gives a different kind of fulfillment. I’m going to look for more inspirations for my future song compositions, I will seek the advice of other composers, and trust the learning process.” she explained.
Indeed, learning never stops for Alisah when it comes to music, which is why her fans can expect more original songs from the bright artist in the near future.
