I’m usually the last person to line up for a thriller, but attending the premiere night was a chance to experience what Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel have to offer. True enough, their exchanges feel so natural that they border on unsettling and creepy at times. Add to that is a striking visual set, mostly red and black, and it feels like stepping into their (dark) world. This one requires a lot of brain action as you try to understand the characters’ journeys and anticipate what will happen next in the story.

Mother Mary, Anne Hathaway’s pop psychological thriller, arrives in Philippine cinemas on April 22, 2026, exclusively distributed by CreaZion Studios. The announcement comes with the release of its official Philippine trailer and poster.
Hathaway, known for Interstellar and The Devil Wears Prada, takes on the role of a global pop icon in this ambitious project from A24. The story follows Mother Mary as she reconnects with her estranged best friend and former costume designer Sam Anselm, played by Coel, on the eve of her comeback performance. The film raises a pointed question: how much of yourself are you willing to trade for fame?

Written and directed by David Lowery (The Green Knight, A Ghost Story), the film unfolds like a musical journey anchored in a complicated reunion. It digs into the emotional weight of broken connections, with original music from Charli XCX, Jack Antonoff, and FKA Twigs—who also appears in the film.

Two singles, “Burial,” performed by Hathaway, and “My Mouth is Lonely For You” by Twigs are set for release in March. The full digital soundtrack, featuring seven tracks, will follow in April on Hathaway’s streaming platforms.
The film also features a strong supporting cast, including Hunter Schafer (Euphoria, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes), Kaia Gerber (Babylon, Shell), and FKA Twigs.

Under its #KwentoMoTo campaign, CreaZion Studios continues its push to bring more human-centered stories to Filipino audiences. Mother Mary marks the company’s second A24 release this year, following the upcoming Backrooms, which is set to open locally on June 3.
According to CreaZion Studios President and CEO RJ San Agustin, the goal is simple and that is to offer a lineup that works for both serious film fans and casual moviegoers, all meant to be experienced in cinemas at their best.
He adds that by introducing bold and widely discussed films to the Philippines and the broader Southeast Asian region, the company aims to connect audiences here with stories that might otherwise feel distant.
Last year, CreaZion Studios brought in titles like No Other Choice by Park Chan-wook, along with A24’s The Legend of Ochi. In 2024, it also released the award-winning body horror film The Substance.
