Atayde family-owned Nathan Studios holds successful premiere of animated movie ‘Buffalo Kids’
My childhood wasn’t just built on the pages of storybooks, it was also colored by the animated worlds that flickered on the screen. These films, with their fantastical characters and simple yet profound stories, helped shape my understanding of the world. Now, a new animated feature, Buffalo Kids, joins those formative experiences, leaving a mark especially close to my heart even now at 40. The film’s focus on sibling and familial love, and its message of inclusivity, deeply affected me. Having a brother with special needs, I recognized the beautiful way Buffalo Kids portrays these relationships, packaging important life lessons within genuinely heartwarming scenes.

Nathan Studios, a production company by the Ataydes in showbiz (Sylvia Sanchez, Ria Atayde-Marudo, Arjo Atayde, and Gela Atayde) known for its diverse filmography spanning action, comedy, and drama, has achieved a milestone. They are the first Filipino family-owned studio to release an animated feature film in Philippine cinemas. This venture into animation reflects the studio’s commitment to exploring uncharted territory and creating high-quality, family-oriented entertainment. Buffalo Kids is a bold step, demonstrating their willingness to embrace new forms of storytelling.

A Story That Travels the World
Buffalo Kids, directed by Gabo Galdochi and produced by Pedro Solis, has already captured the hearts of audiences across the globe. Its journey began at the prestigious Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June 2024, and since then, it has become a beloved family favorite in Europe and Asia. The film boasts an impressive voice cast, including Alisha Weir, Conor MacNeill, Gemma Arterton, Sean Bean, and Stephen Graham, adding another layer of artistry to the production.
Coming Home to the Philippines
Filipino families now have the chance to experience the magic of Buffalo Kids. Nathan Studios is bringing this adventure to local theaters, starting February 12. The studio’s social media tease hints at “a wild adventure! Heroes and villains! Buffalos in the middle of nowhere! And special friends along the way.” It’s a chance to share in a story that celebrates the bonds of family and friendship, and the importance of embracing differences.
