Bugoy Drilon drops new single ‘Impossible Love’ amidst lockdown
“Hindi po talaga siya mabubuo kung hindi dahil sa personal experience ko. Na-experience ko po talaga ang long distance relationship,” R&B sensation and OPM hitmaker Bugoy Drilon shared during the intimate bloggers’ conference last Thursday, August 6. The versatile singer just came out with his newest collaboration song titled ‘Impossible Love’ exploring the theme of love and distance. He said, “Nasulat ko na ‘Impossible Love’ kasi dun sa lyrics niya, merong ‘How can I love you when you’re not even there?’ Before, iniisip ko na parang mas nag-ha-hang out pa ako with my friends kaysa magkaroon ng quality bonding with you kasi wala ka (girlfriend) naman, you’re far away. Nilagay ko rin po about cultural differences kasi hindi naman lahat ng long distance lagingFilipino to Filipino.” The song was composed during the lockdown in collaboration with his US-based friend Forrest Savant.
Impossible Love presents a very timely message especially for lovers in the year 2020 in the midst of an imposed distancing due to the pandemic. Drilon also tells a relevant story of a love facing numerous challenges like distance, cultural differences, and other romantic conflicts. To capture these emotions, Drilon and his team from the U.S. has written, produced, and recorded the single in the midst of the Covid-19 lockdown.
Asked if he has other themes in mind for future releases, Drilon turned serious and expressed his intent to create something tackling the sensitive issue of mental health. The singer shared how he personally battled anxiety during this time of pandemic. He said, “When you write music, kailangan personal sa’yo. Minsan kasi tayong mga artists iniisip natin kung anong magugustuhan ng audience. Kailangan isipin natin ano ba ‘yung nagugustuhan natin. Kasi kung ano ‘yung nagugustuhan natin, i-release natin sa kanila kasi makaka-connect sila. Malay mo ‘yung experience mo, ‘yun din pala experience ng ibang tao. That’s why you need to create music kung anong nasa puso mo. Music is about expressing kung anong nararamdaman mo.”
