Many first met Xia Vigor as the adorable little girl who could effortlessly charm audiences with her smile and make them cry with emotional performances. Today, at 17, the Filipina-British actress is proving there’s much more to her than being the “cute child star.” Thoughtful, articulate, and committed to her craft, Xia is growing into one of her generation’s most promising actresses, both on and off the screen.
Her latest milestone is reprising her role as Yesha in 2nd Miracle in Cell No. 7, the sequel-prequel to the 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival hit that left audiences in tears. The announcement as this year’s official entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival 2026 came as a complete surprise.
“Sobra po akong na-excite talaga. Nagulat din po ako kasi hindi ko talaga in-expect na magkakaroon ng 2nd Miracle. Very unexpected po siya kasi it’s been seven years since yung first Miracle. Ten years old po kasi ako noon and 17 na ako ngayon. Hindi ko talaga ever naisip na gagawa ng part two.”
According to Xia, the new film will explore parts of the story audiences never got to see. She shared, “According po sa magaling naming writer na si Ms. Mel del Rosario, sequel-prequel siya. Ipapakita yung 16-year-old na Yesha, which is ako po talaga yung gaganap. Makikita kung paano nag-cope si Yesha after nung tragic death ng father niya. At ipapakita rin yung buhay ni Joselito bago dumating si Yesha. Hindi pa talaga natatapos yung kuwento ng Miracle.”
The film also reunites her with Aga Muhlach, only the second time they will be working together.
Life after Miracle
The years following the first film were anything but ordinary. Just as new opportunities were beginning to come in, the pandemic halted the entertainment industry. Xia and her family returned to their hometown in Mindoro, where they spent the lockdown.
“Nag-pandemic po kasi noon. Hindi po ako nagkaroon ng projects for maybe two years. Umuwi muna kaming Mindoro at doon kami na-lockdown. Wala pong COVID doon sa bayan namin kaya parang free lang po. Doon ko naranasan maglaro ng street games tulad ng patintero at nagkaroon ako ng maraming friends. Very memorable po,” said the young actress who looked radiant in her soft glam makeup (which she did herself).

When productions resumed, she returned to Manila to film The Wedding Dress with fellow Viva artist Cristine Reyes before taking on more Viva projects, including horror films. Now, returning to the MMFF through 2nd Miracle in Cell No. 7 feels especially meaningful.
“It’s such an honor na maging part ulit ng MMFF after so long. Siyempre medyo nakaka-pressure kasi ang gaganda rin ng ibang entries. Pero pare-pareho naman kaming may isang goal, maihandog yung movies namin para sa mga Pilipino. Gagalingan ko po talaga.”
Interestingly, Xia initially didn’t realize the significance when Viva Chairman Vic del Rosario informed her that the movie had been accepted into the festival.
“Parang randomly lang niya pong sinabi. Hindi ko pa alam na MMFF entry pala. Sabi ko lang, ‘Ah, okay po.’ After a few days, na-realize ko, grabe, ang baba pala ng reaction ko kay Boss. Doon na ako sobrang natuwa. Nagtatalon na po ako sa sobrang excitement.”
A family reunion
Her fondest memories from the original film involve the people. Despite working alongside an all-star cast of veteran actors, Xia never felt out of place.
“Power cast kasi po talaga sila. Ako nga yung outcast noon. Five years pa lang ako sa showbiz, sila decades na. Siyempre may pressure para sa isang 10-year-old. Pero sobrang humble at babait nila. Hindi ko ever na-feel na hindi ako belong. Para kaming naging family on set,” she said.
Returning for the second film feels exactly like that for her, a family reunion.
Xia explained, “Malaking part po talaga ng career ko ang Miracle in Cell No. 7. Maraming nakakakilala sa akin dahil doon. I guess malaking impact din siya sa audience. Kaya sobrang malaking bagay sa akin na magawa namin ulit ito.”
Learning beyond talent
Xia credited much of her performance in the first film to acting workshops under actor Raymond Bagatsing, particularly for helping her handle emotionally demanding scenes. “Si Tito Raymond talaga yung nagturo sa akin ng techniques sa crying scenes. Iba kasi yung demand ng Miracle. Kailangan maramdaman talaga ng audience. Malaki po talaga ang naitulong niya at forever akong grateful,” the actress humbly said.
The lessons, she said, continue to guide her years later.
Love team?
With Viva expanding opportunities through Viva One, Xia isn’t opposed to eventually being part of a love team. But she also believes young actors should have room to grow individually.
The young lady opened up, “Open naman po ako. Hindi po ako against love team. Pero feeling ko dapat continuously ma-normalize din yung mga individual artists. Mas naggo-grow ka kasi kapag nae-explore mo yung iba’t ibang roles at iba’t ibang nakakatrabaho.”
She pointed out that successful love teams require more than chemistry, “People think madali lang yun. Pero kailangan pareho kayo ng goals, pareho ng vision sa career. Kapag may nagkamali sa isa, madadamay kayong dalawa. Teamwork talaga siya.”
More than fluent English
Perhaps one of Xia’s most striking qualities during interviews is how composed and articulate she is. Raised in England until she was five years old, English naturally became her first language. But learning Filipino became a personal mission after moving to the Philippines. We asked her what could have led to her speaking skills.
“First language ko po English since I was born sa England. Five years old ako nang lumipat kami rito. Hindi naman ako tinuruan mag-Tagalog. Na-adapt ko lang growing up,” Xia explained. She believes speaking Filipino is something every Filipino should value.
“I think it’s very important na kapag Filipino ka, marunong ka rin mag-Tagalog. May iba na English lang kahit Filipino sila. Importante pa rin na alam mo yung sarili mong language.”
Contrary to what some might assume, her mother never required her to learn Filipino. Xia detailed, “Personal thing ko po siya. Lagi kasi akong inaasar ng mga kalaro ko dahil may mga Tagalog akong hindi alam. Kaya sabi ko sa sarili ko, mag-aaral talaga ako.”
Xia also rejects the common notion that speaking excellent English automatically makes someone more intelligent. “Hindi ko po ma-gets yun. Siguro naging mindset lang dahil sa history natin. Pero it’s time na mag-iba na yung thinking na ganon at tangkilikin din natin yung sarili nating language. Hindi ibig sabihin na English ka, matalino ka agad.”
Inspired by greatness
When it comes to acting, Xia looks up to two of Philippine cinema’s finest – the late great actresses Nora Aunor and Jaclyn Jose.
“Kapag pinapanood ko po sila, parang hindi ako nanonood ng movie. Feeling ko nangyari talaga siya. May nag-video lang. Ganun po yung gusto kong maging acting—sobrang natural.”
If given the chance, one dream collaboration stands above the rest. “Siyempre si Ate Sarah G (Geronimo). Triple threat po siya—singing, dancing, acting. Siya talaga yung isa sa mga tinitingala ko.”
Beauty and brains
While preparing for 2nd Miracle in Cell No. 7, Xia continues to prioritize her education.
This December, despite a packed schedule, she plans to squeeze in a short academic program after receiving an invitation from her dream school — Oxford University in Oxford, England.
It’s a fitting next chapter for someone whose growth has been as outstanding off-cam as it has been on-cam.
From the little girl who once made audiences cry in Miracle in Cell No. 7 to an elegant young woman who speaks thoughtfully about language, artistry, education, mental health, politics, and her career, Xia Vigor is showing that she isn’t just growing up in front of the cameras as an actress with substance but also as a young woman whose intelligence shines just as brightly as her talent.
