Dennis Trillo launched as a Japanese villain in GMA’s historical drama series ‘Pulang Araw’
The stakes have never been higher in the fight for love, family, and country as Kapuso Drama King Dennis Trillo takes on his first villainous role in the highly anticipated series “Pulang Araw.” Beginning August 21, Trillo makes his chilling debut as Col. Yuta Saitoh, a ruthless Japanese soldier, in what is being hailed as the most important Philippine TV series of 2024.

While Trillo has brought countless characters to life throughout his career, his portrayal of Col. Saitoh promises to be unlike anything viewers have seen before. “At first, viewers will definitely feel anger towards Col. Yuta Saitoh because he’s the antagonist, the bad guy,” Trillo acknowledges. “But I believe that even he will experience some form of redemption, which is crucial. No villain simply becomes a villain overnight. Like my character, he harbors anger towards Filipinos because his family was killed by robbers when he was growing up in the Philippines. Everything has a root cause, and even the most evil individuals have a chance to change.”
Trillo emphasizes the show’s relevance, particularly for younger generations. “Not everyone is aware of what happened during the Japanese occupation. It’s important for them to watch this series to understand their roots and become even prouder of being Filipino. They’ll also witness the bravery of Filipinos during that era and the hardships of war, which we never want to experience again.”
“Pulang Araw,” Trillo notes, is about choosing battles that truly matter. “Aside from the immense suffering Filipinos endured during that time, I learned the importance of avoiding conflicts in life. We should strive to be peace-loving individuals and value everyone around us.”
Trillo also humbly shares his experience working alongside Kapuso Primetime Princess Barbie Forteza, First Lady of Primetime Sanya Lopez, Pambansang Ginoo David Licauco, and Asia’s Multimedia Star Alden Richards. “It’s a wonderful feeling to work with these superstars. This is my first time working with Alden, and you can truly see his passion and energy; he seems tireless. As for Barbie, David, and Sanya, I’m happy to work with them again, and I’ve witnessed their growth over time.”
