“Ito talaga yung pinaka kauna unahan kong film na commercially released,” Direk Alvin Yapan spoke about Call Me Papi, his latest movie project. While most of his films are known to be dark and heavy, the late producer-director Shandii Bacolod talked the award-winning director into directing something light and funny.
Alvin Yapan is best known for his films being sent to film festivals, both local and international. Panggagahasa kay Fe, the film that marked his directorial debut, won an award at the Cairo International Film Festival in 2009. Another film written and directed by Yapan is Debosyon in 2013 and was featured at the ReelWorld FIlm Festival in Toronto,Canada where it won an Honorable Mention for Outstanding International Feature. After that, he was nominated at the Singapore International Film Festival for his film titled “An Kubo saKawayanan” in 2015.
According to Direk Alvin, the making of Call Me Papi took them 3 years to complete. Because they started the shoot of this film pre-pandemic, they were also affected by the
strict lockdowns that they stopped the shoot for a while. It was a series of on-and-off shooting. Thankfully, after three years, the movie is ready for release.
“Call Me Papi” is a sexy barkada comedy film directed by Alvin Yapan that is about the
friendship story of 5 men (Enzo Pineda, Albie Casiño, Royce Cabrera, Lharby Policarpio,Aaron
Policarpio) that live together in one apartment. Where these men have different personalities
that also signifies the various types of men in the society.
Direk Alvin said, “Honestly kasi talaga ang pogi nila lahat. Hindi daw nila alam kung kanino
titingin, at sinadya talaga yun ah, na iba-iba ang itsura ng mga kabataang lalaki ngayon, na
nagrerepresent lahat doon sa lima.” He also added that even after this, he still wants to work with the boys for future projects.
“Even that, gusto ko sila makatrabaho ulit lahat. Ewan ko pero lagi ako natatapat sa
shows/projects na parating ensemble. Wala akong ilalaglag sa kanila sa papogian man or sa
sense of comic timing, yung acting as an dynamics..mahirap itong icast ah, andami naming
pinagdaanan dito,” Direk Alvin said.
The film “Call Me Papi” showcases the value of friendship in society today, especially what we
really have in reality. Where mostly in our society, friendship is one of the most valuable things
we cherish where we also treat them as our family. By watching this film, many people would
