In 2003, the Filipino pop landscape was energized by the all-girl group Viva Hot Babes, known for their eye-catching dance moves and sexy novelty songs. Their energetic performances and playful image made them some of the biggest stars in the country, capturing the attention of a wide audience and establishing a new standard for pop entertainment. Who would have thought that a few years after their peak, one member would leave the limelight behind, uproot her life across the globe, and start anew in the United States? That is Ella V.

Recently, Ella V, formerly Ella Villanueva of Viva Hot Babes fame, marked a milestone with the opening of her dream business—Aura Wellness and Spa—located in Marikina City. The launch event last Sunday was also a reunion with her former group. Ella was joined by Maui Taylor, Katya Santos, Sheree Bautista, Andrea del Rosario, Jaycee Parker, and Zara Lopez, who all gathered to support her new venture. The event even featured their signature Bulaklak dance, much to the delight of the guests.

“Sana kaya pa ng powers natin,” quipped Katya Santos, sharing the joyful spirit of the occasion. Ella expressed her emotions candidly, saying, “My friends, the Viva Hot Babes, really came to support me. I actually felt like crying earlier seeing them because it was surreal, like a dream. I’m so happy. Especially with people like Maui — it’s so hard to get a hold of her, and also Andrea and Katya.” Her words reflected how meaningful this moment was for her after years away from the spotlight.

Having been based on the US West Coast for nearly two decades, Ella V initially tested the waters in Manila three years ago. “We changed our plans into this setup now,” Ella explained. “We don’t want to offer expensive machines.” The new spa is a venture she beautifully crafted alongside her sister, Paula Villanueva, who is the co-owner, president, and CEO. “She invested her savings, too,” Ella shared, “I love it that we now have a collaboration together.”

Ella’s journey from pop star to businesswoman was motivated by her desire for a more balanced life. After relocating from Manila and settling in the US, she married Shane Manalang, a physician-businessman, in May 2008. The couple now has four children—Isabella, Jayden, Justin, and Jordan—whom Ella actively cares for amid her busy schedule. She also manages her weight loss clinic—VGlow—started in 2022, where she markets her own line of products. Her sister Paula manages the Marikina spa, allowing Ella to focus on her family and her expanding business.

During the event, Ella also shared a little secret—a warm serum she concocted herself. I had the chance to try it, and I can attest that it was pleasantly warm, but not scalding hot, with a refreshingly minty smell that invigorated the senses. Ella explained, “I made it myself, and I love that it’s not too hot, just warm enough to relax the skin, with a cooling scent that’s perfect for those who need a little TLC.”

Aura Wellness & Spa offers a range of services such as massages, facials, nail care, eyelash extensions, and eyebrow shaping. What sets it apart is its dedication to creating a cozy, welcoming environment and using premium skincare, such as the exclusive distribution of Esthemax Professional products in the region. Their signature Hydrojelly facial, infused with organic ingredients for deep hydration, is just one of many personalized treatments designed to promote wellness and beauty.

Ella’s vision extends beyond just being a spa; she aims to empower others. “This is our biggest project as sisters. We’re not just creating a spa, we’re creating opportunities. We’re planning to franchise in the future and launch an academy to train estheticians in advanced but non-invasive facial techniques. We’re not into laser because we want to invest in the labor. We want to give back to the community, give people a job rather than give machine a job. It’s more on empowering other women to be more successful,” Ella shared confidently.

With peaceful interiors, attentive staff, and a personal touch, Aura Wellness & Spa is shaping up to be a key destination for beauty and wellness. It’s a space where relaxation meets holistic self-care, appealing not just to locals but also to expatriates and professionals seeking quality service. The spa is open daily from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. and is located at Pinnacle Plaza along Marikina-Infanta Highway, just a short drive from Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall.
Despite her successful transition into entrepreneurship, Ella remains deeply rooted in her Filipino heritage. As she continues to build her new chapter, she remains proud of her past and excited for what lies ahead—knowing she’s created a haven where beauty, wellness, and empowerment come together.

Ella’s journey from the bright stage lights of the Philippines to establishing her own business abroad exemplifies resilience and the pursuit of purpose beyond fame. Her story is a testament to how embracing new opportunities and staying connected with her roots can lead to meaningful success.

Nestled within the tranquil ambiance of Aura Wellness & Spa, Ella’s warm serum stands as a small but significant symbol of her dedication to wellness. The fact that she personally crafted this blend reflects her genuine passion for holistic care and her desire to share it with others. As she said during the event, “It’s about giving something personal, something that shows I care.” This personal touch, combined with her entrepreneurial spirit, underscores her commitment to making a positive impact—whether through her skincare line, her clinic, or her spa.

Looking ahead, Ella V is optimistic about her future endeavors. Her plans to expand the Aura Wellness brand—through franchising and educational programs—highlight her desire to uplift others and create sustainable opportunities in her community. “We want to empower women, give them jobs, and help them succeed,” she emphasized. Her story continues to inspire many, reminding us that with passion and perseverance, new chapters can be written at any stage of life.

As Ella properly puts it, “We’re not just creating a spa, we’re building a future for others and for ourselves. I’m grateful for this journey, and I look forward to what’s next.” And with her dedication and the support of her friends and family, it’s clear that her new path is one paved with promise.
