Nelia lead star Winwyn Marquez won her first ever Best Actress Award for a Feature Film at the International Film Festival Manhattan (IFFM) last October 13, held in New York City, USA.

According to the celebrity mom, Nelia opened a lot of opportunities – her first titular role, her first pregnancy while shooting, her first grand announcement during the press conference of the movie and now, her first acting award

In a pocket conference held on Saturday, October 15, the beauty queen-turned-actress and a proud hands-on mom gleefully narrated how she heard about this good news. “Siyempre ang sarap ng feeling na na-recognize bilang actress this time, lalo na international. Hindi ko alam kung ano ang ire-react ko, kung sisigaw ba ako or maiiyak ako kasi nung nalaman ko nagpapatulog ako ng baby, e. So nung tinext ako, inaantay ko pa na baka… ‘Totoo ba?’ Or baka joke time or baka bawiin pa, baka mali yung sinabing name! So nagpapatulog ako hindi ko alam kung ano’ng gagawin ko nung time na yun. So ngayon pa lang nagsi-sink in sa akin.”

Winwyn dedicates this special milestone to none other than her six-month-old daughter, Luna Teresita Rayn.

On October 16, she posted a lengthy thank you message.

Part of her caption reads, “Our movie Nelia means so much to me and to be recognized as an actress is a dream come true.

“I was almost 6 months when I announced my pregnancy during our Nelia Grand Presscon – A&Q Production’s first movie, My first title role and an MMFF2021 official entry… Now, Luna is almost 6 months old when I found out I won my very first acting award 🥺 grabe lang ang timing ni God sa lahat. I truly feel HE gave me a lucky charm and si Luna yun. 🙏💜”

The celebrity mom was quick to say “no” when she was asked if she’ll be picky about her next roles. “Hindi naman po! Siguro kasi lucky din ako na ang ibinibigay kasi sa akin talaga, magaganda yung mga script. It will depend on the script given to me. But ever since naman, I’ve been vocal ever since bago pa ako makakuha ng award na, hindi ko lang talaga kaya yung sexy and daring lalo na mommy na ako ngayon, I don’t think I can do that. Pero yung mga binibigay naman sa akin na mga script, kung maganda, kung okay, gagawin ko. Kasi on top of my head ang priority ko is to work for my child, e. Hindi na yung for me, e, ‘no? It’s for my daughter. So I don’t think magiging mapili [ako], as long as maganda yung script and yung role na ibigay sa akin, okey lang.”

Produced by A&Q Films Production, Nelia is a suspense-thriller movie that chronicles the life of Nurse Kabigting Nelia, KN for short and “Killer Nurse” for long, as she tries to uncover the horror of deaths in Room 009 of Remedios Medical Center, a hospital that she’s working for. What seemed to be ordinary deaths at first would eventually lead to the biggest plot twist of the movie.

Aside from Winwyn Marquez, Nelia’s power cast includes veterans Raymond Bagatsing and Mon Confiado, Ali Forbes, Shido Roxas, and newbie Juan Carlos Galano.

Directed by Lester Dimaranan, Nelia was one of the eight films of the 2021 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).
