You’re in for a total experience when you watch Unravel, one of the entries to the first-ever Summer Metro Manila Film Festival. The movie produced by MavX Productions stars Gerald Anderson and Kylie Padilla. Directed by RC Delos Reyes, the story was written by Erwin Blanco, Ellice Tuason, and Senedy Que.

I personally enjoyed the film’s voyeuristic and immersive feels. It was as if I was just watching Gerald’s and Kylie’s characters come to life but at the same time, I also felt like I was traveling with them all over Switzerland. There was strength in the beautiful travel shots made amplified by the perfectly matched musical scoring. Again, it was an absolute experience that will take you to several highs and lows.

Unravel follows Lucy (Kylie), a successful Filipina CEO suffering from depression despite her career milestones. She just got out of a relationship and decided to head to Switzerland to sign up for voluntary assisted death. Voluntary assisted death is accepted in several countries like Switzerland but Lucy’s case was not qualified. While in the foreign country, her path crosses with Noah’s (Gerald), a fellow Filipino who has been instrumental in saving other people’s lives.

Gerald and Kylie effectively played their roles with specific scenes as highlights (but I cannot share them here so as not to spoil!). The cameras loved them both, especially Kylie, who looked beautiful in every angle. Her barely-there makeup and chic outfits from start to finish stood out.

Just a word of warning to those planning to watch, the film is heavy on issues of mental health. Consider this article a trigger warning in case there isn’t a disclaimer placed before screening.
