“The Heart of Music” started enchanting audiences when it opened in cinemas on December 10. The film revolves around the spirited Yaya Madonna, a curly-haired breadwinner who faces the challenges of life after being orphaned by her mother. Deceived by an illegal recruiter, Madonna fabricates a story about working abroad to spare her father (played by PJ Abellana) from worry. This leads her to a new chapter in her life as she takes on the role of nanny to the eight children of Diana (Isay Alvarez) and Frank Riviera (Robert Seña), setting the stage for a series of unexpected twists.

Transitioning from her typical roles as a villain or kontrabida, award-winning actress Gladys Reyes embraces a refreshing opportunity to play a heroic character in this musical narrative. Writer Mario Alaman emphasizes the film’s relevance, stating, “Ito ay pampamilya na inaalay namin lalo na sa panahon ngayon na maraming bagay na hindi kasing ayon pagdating sa pamilya,” highlighting the film’s commitment to family themes.

Director Paolo Bertola expresses his excitement for the project, noting, “It’s a family drama with a lot of songs. I enjoyed shooting the film with Gladys and the rest of the cast.” Gladys herself brings an additional perspective, mentioning her love for classics like “The Sound of Music,” which influenced her acceptance of this unique role.
The movie, penned by Alaman, features 16 original songs that he also composed, lending the film a personalized touch. Bertola, recognized for his visual storytelling, directs this heartfelt piece, promising an engaging experience for viewers. When asked whether her newfound passion for music might lead to a single release, Gladys playfully replied, “Secret. Malalaman n’yo na lang,” eliciting laughter from those around her.
Produced by Cube Studios through a partnership with Utmost Creatives Motion Pictures and YourPost Entertainment, “The Heart of Music” embodies a celebration of art, family, and faith. For Gladys, this film represents not just a role but a realization of her dreams, reflecting her own journey filled with grace and gratitude. After years of portraying intricate characters, she finally emerges as the leading star, bringing hope and melody to the forefront.

The film boasts a talented cast, including Jon Lucas as Billy, Angel Guardian as Debbie, Sean Lucas as Michael, Elijah Alejo as Christina, Angel Laco as Celine, Stanley Abuloc as Bryan, and twins Noreen (Britney) and Markhy (Justine) as the youngest family members. Rounding out the impressive lineup are Jopay Paguia, Joshua Zamora, Rey “PJ” Abellana, Marissa Sanchez, Berna Cabrera, Hasna Cabral, Angelica Bertola, and Roven Alejandro. Also making her acting debut is singer and Tawag ng Tanghalan finalist Jennie Gabriel.

In her role as Madonna, Gladys showcases her emotional range and musical talent. To prepare for the demanding role, she took significant steps to ensure authenticity, expressing her initial nerves around her co-stars Robert and Isay. “Opo, nahihiya kasi ako kina Sir Robert. And of course, kay Ate Isay. Sabi ko nga, nung nalaman ko ‘yun, nag-set kaagad ako ng appointment with voice lesson teacher, Teacher Dixie Lacuesta. And then, piano lesson din as well,” Gladys shared. She emphasized the importance of mastering not just the music but the physical aspects of performance, ensuring she was ready for every scene.
As “The Heart of Music” prepares to touch the hearts of its audience, it promises a blend of engaging storytelling and heartfelt melodies, making it a must-see this December.
