The stage was set. “Time To Dance,” a new dance survival reality show, started igniting our Saturday nights. A collaboration between ABS-CBN and Nathan Studios, the show promises a celebration of movement, passion, and the undeniable talent of the Philippine dance community. With Gela Atayde and Robi Domingo as hosts, “Time To Dance” premiered last January 18, and viewers can still catch all the action weekly on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, and A2Z.

Beyond competition

“Time To Dance” goes beyond fancy footwork and intricate choreography. For Gela Atayde, a champion dancer herself, the show is a personal mission.

“This is an advocacy project for me,” Gela shared during the show’s media launch. “Being part of the dance community, I see everything that happens – what’s lacking, what’s overflowing. Here in ‘Time To Dance,’ I want to be able to help those who want to explore dance more and also inspire. ‘Time To Dance’ was born because of the heart and passion they saw in me.”

This commitment to fostering the dance community is evident in the show’s inclusive format. Dancers of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities will grace the stage, showcasing the diversity and power of dance. Adding to the excitement, celebrity performers like AC Bonifacio and Darren Espanto, alongside celebrated dance coaches such as Chips Beltran, Lema Diaz, and Jobel Dayrit, will appear as guest judges and mentors.

A Star is Born

While the spotlight will shine brightly on the contestants, Gela’s own journey as a first-time host is generating considerable buzz. Robi Domingo, her co-host, has been impressed by her natural talent and rapid growth.

“You can really see Gela’s eagerness to further hone her craft,” Robi observed. “Her improvement since day one has been immense. In hosting, what you want is that connection, it’s not all about talking. We really feel that from her.”

Vimi Rivera, the Director of World of Dance Philippines and a member of the show’s dance council, echoed this sentiment. He emphasized the show’s dedication to showcasing the skills and artistry within the local dance scene, highlighting that “Time To Dance” is about more than just winning or losing.
