After the huge success of ‘That’s my Tomboy,’ It’s Showtime has launched a new segment on January 18, 2014 in their noontime show called ‘I am Pogay,’ which also aims to uphold and promote gender rights and equality in the country.

What differentiates this contest with other gay pageants on TV like Eat Bulaga’s ‘Super Sireyna’ is that it encourages the pamhin/paminta (a gay slang/lingo which is short for ‘pagpapaka-men’, a.k.a. closeted gays/gays who don’t act effeminate/those who don’t cross dress/or those who still appear manly on the outside but has same-sex sexual preference) sector of the gay society to come out and be proud of who they are. It only tells us that nowadays, gays are multi-faceted and they may come in many forms — the parloristas, the beauconeras (short for ‘beauty contestants,’ those who always join gay pageants), the drags, the pamhins, among other types.

For its premiere airing, only two contestants battled it out on stage. And the result was epic…

From their introductions, talent performances, to the Q&A, the contestants and the segment proved to be an entertaining and amusing addition to It’s Showtime.

In the end, both contestants won and will be part of the weekly finals next Saturday.
