Fresh from joining fellow lawmakers in recognizing the achievements of P-pop sensation BINI, Negros Occidental 3rd District Representative Javi Benitez spent time with members of the entertainment media on May 20, where he discussed his continued support for Filipino creatives, his personal life, and recent challenges faced by his family.

The young congressman was among those who honored the nation’s leading girl group, whose growing international success has helped shine a spotlight on Filipino talent worldwide. During the media gathering, Benitez reiterated his commitment to supporting the country’s entertainment and creative sectors.

As chairman of the committee on creative industries, he highlighted efforts to advance the proposed FDCP Act of 2026, which aims to strengthen incentives and protections for Philippine cinema. According to Benitez, the measure is intended to help modernize the industry after more than two decades without significant policy reforms.

The conversation later turned to his former girlfriend, actress Sue Ramirez, who recently spoke about wanting to build a family with her current boyfriend, actor Dominic Roque.

Asked for his reaction, Benitez had nothing but positive words for the actress.

“I’m very happy for her, wala akong masasabing masama about her and I still believe that she’s one of the most accomplished yet underrated actresses of her time. Very happy for her, feeling ko sila na magiging end na,” he said.

Benitez added that he believes Ramirez and Roque share similar goals, which could help strengthen their relationship.

“Well, both of them want to get married and have kids. Bagay sila, happy ako para sa kanila.”

The congressman and Ramirez ended their five-year relationship in 2024. Looking back on their separation, Benitez said the decision was reached mutually.

“Nag-usap kami and we both decided that we go our separate ways. ’Yun longest relationship ko.”

While Ramirez has publicly embraced a new chapter in her life, Benitez said he is currently focused on his own growth and responsibilities.

“Happy ako sa ginagawa ko. I am low-key baka in the future masabi ko. Self-happiness.”

He admitted that balancing a relationship with the demands of public service has become increasingly difficult since assuming his role in Congress.

“Mahirap isabay with work especially since start ng Congress. Need mag-focus. I’m also taking further studies. Unlike when I was mayor also, doon lang ako. Ngayon, kailangan ko ngayon Manila and there,” he explained.

Beyond his personal life, Benitez was also asked about recent controversies involving his family. He briefly addressed reports that linked his father, Albee Benitez, to actress Ivana Alawi, allegations that Alawi has publicly denied.

Without elaborating on private family matters, the congressman acknowledged that the situation had not been easy.

“Hindi madali kahit sinong pamilya dumaan sa ganoon. As much as possible gusto namin gawin private. Very close ako sa mom ko. Siyempre andoon ako for her. Mga pinagdadaanan niya andoon ako. Nanay ko very private biglang naging public figure.”

Benitez emphasized that he continues to support his mother while respecting his family’s desire for privacy.

He also clarified that despite public speculation surrounding the issue, he remains in touch with his father.

“Nakikita ko siya sa congress. ’Yung personal private matters, we will keep it private. Nag-uusap kami minsan, minsan di siya nagre-reply, baka busy. Okay kami.”

For now, Benitez appears focused on his legislative work, further studies, and initiatives aimed at helping Filipino artists and content creators thrive. While he remains open to whatever the future may bring, he said his priority at present is personal fulfillment and making an impact through public service.
