Real-life Kapuso couple “GabLil” is making a TV appearance for the very first time via GMA Network and Regal Films‘ co-production “Regal Studio Presents: One Million Comments, Magjo-jowa Na Ako.

Gabbi Garcia and Khalil Ramos were thrilled to promote their episode yesterday during a live session with fans and Q&A with the press streamed on Facebook and TikTok.

During the live session, Gabbi and Khalil told Random Republika what it felt like working together for onscreen kilig when they are real-life partners. I asked, “Isn’t it awkward to be doing kilig scenes with your boyfriend or girlfriend?

Here’s how our chat went. Read on.

Gabbi: Alam mo, Ate Kate, prior to LSS, ‘yung movie namin before, sabi namin ni Khalil parang hindi namin kaya magtrabaho together. Since nga ‘yung relationship namin out of work ‘di ba? Labas naman siya ng work. lalo na nasa kabilang bakod pa si Khalil. Pero noong nag-LSS kami, nandoon ‘yung kapaan eh sa pelikulang ‘yun.

Khalil: Doon ‘yung awkward phase.

Gabbi: Medyo awkward pa kami noon. Pero after that, na-discover na namin paano magtrabaho ang isa’t isa, kung ano ‘yung work ethics ng isa’t isa, ‘yung strengths and weaknesses. For this one, our first TV appearance as a couple, medyo smooth na.

Khalil: It was a very smooth and easy experience for the both of us.

Gabbi: Pinadali rin ni Direk Easy for us. Easy lang with Direk Easy!

Director Easy Ferrer is the one behind this episode. He has done several projects with Regal Films.

Khalil: At times, to be honest, medyo mararamdaman mo pa rin siya [awkwardness].

Gabbi: ‘Pag nagigising ka, parang, ‘Hala, kaeksena kita!’

Khalil: We do a lot of things together eh. Katulad nga ng sinabi mo, we have Front Seat Foodies, we have Figure it Out, so it’s figuring out how to maneuver through working with each other.

Gabbi: Especially for this one ’cause we’re playing different roles. For our vlogs and our podcast kasi, we get to be ourselves.

Khalil: We always just remind ourselves that on the set, our primary role is as actors.

Gabbi: “Hindi kami on set, actors muna kami.”

After the two related how they are slowly getting over the awkwardness of being onscreen lovers, they also shared their offscreen dynamics when it comes to making comments on each other’s ways – dressing up, acting performance, and the like. My question was, “How much freedom do you give each other to make comments?”

Gabbi (laughs): Sa pananamit, wala kaming comment sa isa’t isa! Bahala ka diyan!

Khalil: Puwera na lang halimbawa we go to an event tapos underdressed ‘yung isa.

Gabbi: Kunyari naka-tsinelas lang si Khalil. Kaya niya kasing gawin ‘yun! (laughs) Medyo, ‘Uy, mga boss ‘yung nandoon baka naman gusto mo mag-sapatos!’ Pero when it comes naman to being conservative or personal style…

Khalil: Mas ‘You do you’ kami.

Gabbi: Oo, bahala ka. Minsan lolokohin lang ako ni Khalil, ‘O, pang-Grade 1 ‘yung crop top natin today ah!’ Gaganyanin niya ako. Pero ‘yun lang. Pero when it comes naman to stuff we have to improve on, for example, acting or halimbawa, personality namin or our reaction to our parents or ‘yung mga bashers, na kailangan konti ng nudge, of course, we give comments sa isa’t isa.

Khalil: We are transparent when it comes to that. We both believe na kailangan may communication. You’re in the partnership para magtulungan naman eh for the better. Hindi naman kami ganun na ‘yung may ma-comment lang. Iniiwasan namin na maging toxic with each other just ‘cause may ayaw ka.

#REALationshipGoals is indeed the best hashtag for this Kapuso couple! They were as real as any ordinary couple can get when they addressed my questions. Catch them as “AM” and “PM” in “Regal Studio Presents: One Million Comments, Magjo-jowa Na Ako” this coming Saturday, September 25, at 8:30PM on GMA Network. Gabbi and Khalil are joined by Kat Galang and Manolo Pedrosa.
