Why the title “Fatherland”?
Director Joel Lamangan explained the title’s meaning: “Habang hinahanap niya ang tatay niya, nakikita niya ang kondisyon ng bayang pinanggalingan niya. Kaya father in the Fatherland.” He also discussed his approach to filmmaking: “Everytime that I do a film, I would like to say something, I’m not a director who does a film that doesn’t say anything. Every film that I did, I would like to say something. At this particular point, I would like to say something, the son looking for the dad, at the same time looking for the love, at the same time exposing the ailment to the society.”
“Fatherland”, a mirror held up to society, will captivate audiences seeking identity, love, and belonging. The film will be released in theaters on Black Saturday, April 19.
