Every great business story begins with a bold move — and Charo’s is no exception. Businesswoman Charo Cordial’s journey with Maddox Jewelry proves how taking risks can transform lives and redefine success. In entrepreneurship, a few principles are as vital as daring to step outside your comfort zone and maintaining dedication to quality.

Her story starts far from the dazzling display cases of jewelry stores. A licensed agricultural engineer, Charo spent 15 years working for a multinational company, often seen as one of the boys in a male-dominated team. “Hindi ako into luxury. Nasa gitna ako ng palayan, nagda-drive ako ng farm truck,” she shared. Her days were rooted in the fields, far from the elegance of jewelry. She was focused on her work and her routine, until the pandemic became the game-changer.

When the world shut down in 2020, Charo found herself with time and a restless spirit. “2020, nag-shutdown buong mundo. Wala ako ginagawa araw-araw. Nakita ko nagla-live sell, subukan ko para may kausap ako,” she recalled. She started with her old bags, simply to have someone to talk to during her live sessions. “Tapos wow, may kausap ako, viewers ko isa o dalawa lang,” she detailed. What was meant to be just a pastime soon sparked a bigger passion.

Her breakthrough came unexpectedly during a live session. “Remember employee lang ako. Kaya wala ako pang puhunan ng ganitong business,” she shared. Then, a stranger, a supplier, reached out with a tempting offer.

“May supplier nag-message sakin. Magpapadala daw ng isang box ng jewelry para ibenta ko,” Charo said. With only trust guiding her, she gave her address. “Binigay ko address ko. After one week, may dumating. Sabi ng asawa ko bakit binigay ko address, baka scam,” she recalls. But what arrived turned out to be worth P5 million, an astonishing figure that validated her instinct.

Despite her initial hesitation, she recognized the importance of trust in her business. “Pero ‘yung dumating, nung binuksan ko, halaga noon worth P5 million. Pina-check pa namin, totoo siya. Tapos gusto magpadala ulit,” she recounted. Her response was to hold steadfast to her principles. “Sabi ko, ibebenta ko muna lahat at babayaran siya bago magpadala ulit. For me, trust was worth more than the box, so I made sure to sell everything first and pay in full, and I did,” the confident entrepreneur shared. That leap of faith set her on a path where integrity and persistence would become the foundation of her success.

From a solo live-seller, Charo built Maddox Jewelry into a leading brand. Today, her company boasts over 100 employees working in a multi-storey facility in Marikina City, a structure she entirely funded with her earnings. Their showroom is alive with clients, including several celebrities. She teased us with some names but their reach and appeal go beyond star power. Maddox’s success is rooted in their inclusivity: “Ang iniisip ng iba, high-end market lang kami. But the truth is, all status ng buhay, may household staff, may workers, we cater to all. Wala kaming pinipiling customer. Ang happiness ng nakabili ng P1-million piece is the same sa nakabili ng worth P4,000.”

Charo emphasizes that they source a variety of gemstones, making luxury accessible to everyone. “We have a big supplier network already, we can find gemstones for you even rare just give us time,” she proudly shared. She remains committed to her original approach: “We have designed engagement rings and pieces for some famous people, although confidential,” she smilingly added.
