What is Dermablate?
A fractional laser used in dermatology, the MCL31 Dermablate is a technology that offers highly precise “ablation” or the removal of a material from the surface of the skin such as benign lesions of the dermis and epidermis, as well as skin rejuvenation via the treatment of wrinkles and scars. It uses the ER:Yag laser, a type of skin resurfacing laser, and is considered the gold standard in dermatology for its exceptional precision and painless method.
Dermablate can target the following skin issues.
Pigmentation – The laser is effective at exfoliating the surface of the skin, targeting superficial discoloration (caused by acne and sun damage) and promoting uneven skin tone.
Uneven texture – It can address surface anomalies such as lesions and scarring (including deep acne scars), giving a more refined and visibly smoother skin texture.
Signs of aging – It helps stimulate collagen production to improve elasticity and tighten the skin, minimizing the appearance of lines and wrinkles
How does it work?
This type of device uses Er;YAG laser technology which expertly penetrates through the epidermis and dermis without damaging the skin surface. The laser works at a wavelength of 2930 which is the maximum peak of water absorption. Since the laser targets the water — which is the main component of the skin – skin damage from the heat transfer is avoided. The laser energy is used precisely for the vaporization of water in the tissue.
Almost any area of the face and body can be treated with Dermablate. The actual procedure usually takes around 30 minutes, depending on the area being treated. A topical anesthesia may be used on sensitive patients or as requested, but is usually not required as there is zero to minimal pain involved.
Post-treatment
There is no downtime although a bit of redness may appear. Two to three days of visible skin peeling is also expected, as well as itching (similar to the effects of sunburn). The risk of scarring and other complications is very minimal. Sun exposure must be avoided during the healing period, which can generally take two to seven days, depending on the type and depth of treatment.
Long-term results
Patients can already see visible improvement in tone, texture, and elasticity after each treatment, and these will only become more palpable as he or she received further treatment.
Dermablate may be done once every two weeks for up to 10 sessions during the treatment phase, and once every four to six weeks as maintenance.
