MASTERS Poker Club is committed to promoting poker as a sport and applauding Magnus Carlsen, the international chess champion who recently transitioned to professional poker. Carlsen was spotted playing in Hustlers Casino’s live stream cash game in Los Angeles, California.

Norwegian chess grandmaster Carlsen is the reigning five-time World Chess Champion, a four-time World Rapid Chess Champion, and a six-time World Blitz Chess Champion. He holds the record for the longest unbeaten streak at the elite level in classical chess. In his recent game at Hustlers Casino, Carlsen emerged as the winner with a total cash prize of almost Php300,000.00 or $5,000.00.

Along with other chess masters such as Alexandra Botez, Carlsen has been joining Hustlers Casino’s poker live stream. The transition of chess players to poker has been a recent trend, mostly due to the similarity of both sports. Both require a fundamental comprehension of game theory, combined with proficiency in human psychology, skills that can be attained through rigorous training, as with any other sport.

However, poker presents a greater challenge due to the randomness of cards. This compels players to learn how to deal with any card in any given situation and against any opponent to win.

Carlsen’s game is a testament to the fact that the sport requires every player to decipher opponents through constantly varying probabilities and behavioral patterns on the table, and this is the mental exercise that chess players seek in poker.

The growing mainstream popularity of poker as a legitimate sport embodies and reflects the vision of Masters Poker Club to enlighten Filipinos that the game requires skill and strategy instead of luck, and with enough practice in honing that skill, anybody can make poker a profession.

The club continues to promote the sport as it expands down south with the grand opening of their newest branch in Biñan, Laguna. Masters Poker Club marketing head Gio Palacios said, “We’re excited to announce the opening of Masters Poker in Biñan, Laguna this May. We are bringing poker closer to the south, and we are looking forward to seeing everybody at the felt.”
