In a country where history is often preserved through stories, landmarks, and recurring traditions, there exists another way of remembering the past — through objects small enough to hold. Coins, banknotes, and other collectibles offer a glimpse into different eras representing power, culture, and identity. In the Philippines, numismatics has evolved into a growing movement that connects collectors, historians, and institutions in the shared pursuit of preserving tangible pieces of heritage.

This passion for preservation took center stage in Pasig City over the weekend, as a numismatic and collectibles event gathered collectors, historians, and cultural institutions under one roof. The gathering showcased how coins and banknotes go beyond their monetary value and serve as historical artifacts that mirror history.

Known as Minted MNL, the summer edition of the event created a space for enthusiasts of coins, paper currency, and precious metals to come together, exchange insights, and present rare and meaningful pieces from their collections.

Going beyond the usual exhibition, organizers positioned the event as a collaborative hub as it brought together collectors, scholars, artists, and institutions who share a common goal of safeguarding historical objects and the stories they carry.

Anchored on the theme “Where Stories Bloom,” this year’s edition highlighted how collectibles can embody significant moments in history while also showcasing artistic craftsmanship and cultural identity that endure through generations.

One of the key attractions of the event was the first public unveiling of the ASEAN coin, a piece that symbolizes unity and shared heritage among member nations of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Aside from showcasing rare items, Minted MNL also emphasized the importance of ethical collecting and cultural stewardship. The organization operates as a licensed dealer of cultural properties, recognized by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) under the National Cultural Heritage Act of 2009.

The event drew support from major national institutions, including the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), the Department of Tourism (DOT), and PhilPost. It signaled a broader effort to strengthen and promote the numismatic community in the country.

Guests were given the opportunity to explore a diverse range of exhibits, from gold and silver pieces to bullion, coins, paper currency, and other historically significant collectibles.

Minted MNL: Where Stories Bloom ran from March 14 to 15 at The Westin Manila Hotel and welcomed visitors from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Organizers have also announced a year-end edition slated for November 21 to 22, carrying the theme “The Beacon,” which will be held at the same venue.
