Whether you’re experiencing a quarter- or mid-life crisis, you’ll find 9 Works Theatrical‘s newest offering, tick, tick…BOOM! something you can relate to. This local production of an autobiographical musical is in celebration of Jonathan Larsontick, tick…BOOM! was the musical he wrote before he came up with the award-winning smash hit Rent.

2016 marks Rent’s 20th anniversary. Sadly, the popular musical’s writer never got to see his work’s success and impact in theater. Larson was found dead in his apartment on the day of the first preview of the show. He was believed to have undiagnosed Marfan syndrome. Larson later received 4 posthumous awards 3 Tony awards (Best Musical, Best Book, and Best Score) and a Pulitzer Prize for Drama

THE STORY and THE CAST:

tick, tick…BOOM! illustrates the life of an artist struggling to his passion for the arts as he is about to turn 30. The story is set in the early ’90s with lead character, Jon,* questioning the life decisions he has made. He is a struggling composer who has yet to make his mark on Broadway.

Jon will be portrayed by Jef Flores, a Gawad Buhay awardee for This Is Our Youth.

Jon’s girlfriend, Susan, is a ballet teacher with upperclass yet talentless clients. She suggests starting a family with Jon and pursuing a career outside New York.

Susan will be played by Tanya Manalang who performed as Kim in the revival of Miss Saigon in UK.

Jon’s best friend, Michael, is a marketing research executive who used to dream of becoming an actor. He suggests that Jon works with him in his firm for a more stable and secure career.

Michael will be brought to life by Ariel Reonal who used to be part of the original run and West End revival of Miss Saigon. He was also a vocalist at the Golden Mickeys in Hong Kong Disneyland.

tick, tickBOOM! is directed by Robbie Guevara, Daniel Bartolome as musical director, Elisanta Cortez as vocal supervisor, Arnold Trinidad as choreographer, Mio Infante as scenographer, Mickey Hirai as costume designer and stylist, Martin Esteva as lighting designer, Myrene Santos as hair and makeup designer, Philleep Masaquel as Technical Director, JC Inocian as photographer, and Maine Manalansan as graphic creative manager.

Heading the production team is executive producer Santi Santamaria, with Anna Santamaria as company manager, Sunshine Domine as production manager, Toff de Venecia as PR director, Jonjon Martin and Issa Tuason as PR managers, GM Hernandez as marketing manager, and Arma Bonilla as stage manager.

tick, tickBOOM! will have a limited run on October 1, 8, 9, 15, 16, 21, 22 & 23, 2016 at 8:00pm on Fridays and Saturday, and 3:30pm on Sundays at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium (RCBC Plaza).
