Comedian Negi is also apparently fond of investing in jewelry. He is also one of those who follow Maddox Jewelry and the live selling sessions of Founder/President Charo Cordial.
Negi brought a ring that he said people often tell him is fake.
But according to him, he bought it in Dubai for P400k, almost half a million. However, people here say it’s fake and only offer to buy it from him for P25k. He had it assessed at Maddox, and Charo’s suspicion was correct—she believes it is a real diamond and gold.
Negi immediately took a liking to a pair of diamond stud earrings. But he was surprised because he bought his piece in Dubai at a higher price. So he said, “Nagpunta pa ko ng Dubai, dito lang pala mas mura.”
He also liked a love ring, so he added, “Babe, kung nanonood ka man, nakita ko na ’tong para sa atin.”
Like Charo, Negi also came from humble beginnings. While Charo worked extra hard to finish her studies, Negi, on the other hand, went from deboning milkfish—earning P3 per fish—to becoming a jester on Eat Bulaga and Gandang Gabi Vice. He said this is where he gradually became known, and now he is one of the recognized comedians in comedy bars, films, and television.
In Negi’s story to Charo, he said that before, even a friend who became a teacher once told him, “Hindi ka grumadweyt. Mamamatay kang malansa. Ang sakit nu’n! Nagalit ako noong una, pero kalaunan, naging motivation ko yun.
“Hindi, sinusumpa ko na hindi matatapos ang kwento ko na dito lang ako. Kaya lumabas ako sa comfort zone ko na akala ko, nando’n lang ako, na tambay lang.”
Negi also said he once saw that same friend again. “Minsan nakita ko siya, papasok sa work. Nagda-drive ako ng sasakyan ko. Siya naka-pedicab. Hindi naman po ito parang pagyayabang, ano lang, nag-pray ako, parang thank you Lord, ang bait mo po sa akin.”
Charo echoed Negi’s statement. According to her, “Alam mo ba yung mga kuwento na nilalait, minsan, sila pa talaga yung nagiging successful sa buhay.
“Ganun din naman ako dati, noong bata pa ko, sasabihin nila sa akin na, ay ‘yan, walang mararating sa buhay. Ay yan, pariwara yan, babarkada lang yan. Landi-landi n’yan.”
They both said that the “panlalait” or belittling they experienced before became their motivation.
