The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) has kicked off several exciting initiatives to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Anticipation is growing across the capital as the festival, in partnership with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), revealed a striking mural and announced special P50 movie tickets in honor of this milestone.

One of the standout events was the unveiling of the “Sine Sigla sa Singkwenta” mural along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA). The mural features hand-painted portraits of legendary movie stars who have defined Philippine cinema over the past five decades. Icons like Dolphy, Eddie Garcia, Gloria Romero, Nora Aunor, Vilma Santos, and many others are honored in this artistic tribute.

“This mural is a reminder of the timeless stories that have touched generations and will continue to inspire in the years to come,” said MMDA Chief and MMFF Overall Concurrent Chairman Don Artes. “It also honors the filmmakers, actors, and artists who have played a vital role in shaping the MMFF over the years.”

The mural features the following iconic Filipino actors and actresses:

  • Dolphy
  • Eddie Garcia
  • Gloria Romero
  • Nora Aunor
  • Vilma Santos
  • Christopher De Leon
  • Maricel Soriano
  • Vic Sotto
  • Marian Rivera
  • Dingdong Dantes
  • Vice Ganda
  • Amy Austria
  • Joseph Estrada
  • Anthony Alonzo
  • Fernando Poe Jr.

Along with the mural, the MMFF has teamed up with the Cinema Exhibitors Association of the Philippines (CEAP) to offer moviegoers a special treat. From September 25 to October 15, 50 iconic MMFF films will be screened in selected cinemas nationwide, with tickets priced at just P50 to commemorate the 50th anniversary.

Chairman Artes expressed his appreciation for CEAP’s support of the initiative. “We are truly grateful to CEAP for their generosity in making this possible,” he said. “This act of solidarity is a meaningful contribution to our celebration.”

The 50th-anniversary celebrations aim to pay tribute to the festival’s rich history and its lasting impact on Philippine cinema. With the EDSA mural, special screenings, and other engaging activities, the MMFF invites everyone to celebrate the magic of Filipino films.

Prominent figures from the film industry, including National Artist Ricky Lee and members of the Actor’s Guild of the Philippines (AKTOR), the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), MOWELFUND, and the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP), attended the launch, further highlighting the importance of this milestone.

As the 50th MMFF approaches, these early activities have already set the stage for an unforgettable celebration of Filipino cinema.
