The Philippine construction industry recently converged at the SMX Convention Center Manila and the World Trade Center Manila for Philconstruct 2024, a milestone event marking 35 years of progress and innovation. Organized by the Philippine Constructors Association, Inc. (PCA), the expo, themed “Building 35 Years of Legacy Through Sustainable Industry Advancement,” ran from November 7 to 10, featuring a vast array of exhibits, demonstrations, and seminars.

“It is my great honor to welcome you to Philconstruct 2024, a significant milestone celebrating 35 years of innovation, collaboration and growth in the Philippine construction industry,” announced Engr. Ronaldo “Junn” Elepaño Jr., President of PCA, in his opening remarks. He highlighted the journey of Philconstruct, “What began as a modest gathering of passionate individuals has transformed into one of Southeast Asia’s largest and most anticipated trade exhibitions, all thanks to the unwavering dedication of everyone here today. Over the years, we have faced various challenges, yet each time we emerge stronger, showcasing the resilience and creativity that define the Filipino construction sector.”
Elepaño Jr. continued, emphasizing the industry’s adaptability: “We have continually reset to meet global standards, embrace emerging technologies, and adapt it to the ever-evolving demands of the market. This year is no exception. As we stand on the brink of new opportunities that like ahead, Philconstruct 2024 serves as a platform for us to explore the future where sustainability, digital transformation, and smart technologies will chart the course of our industry.”

This year’s expo showcased over 500 local and international industry suppliers, providing a platform for businesses to connect and explore potential collaborations. “For three and a half decades, Philconstruct has blossomed from humble beginnings into the premier platform for showcasing the latest innovations technologies, and solutions in our field,” declared Engr. Ruben Cueto, Overall Chair of Philconstruct Series 2024. He emphasized the expo’s commitment to “enhancing construction standards, rivaling innovation, and empowering the enemy to unite our democracy’s progress.”
Cueto also highlighted the importance of collaboration: “Your partnership has been invaluable and we are deeply grateful for your belief in the mission of Philconstruct. Together, we have achieved remarkable things and together, we will continue to push the boundaries of what we can accomplish, placing the buildings firmly on the global map for decades above.”

A key highlight of Philconstruct 2024 was the TechnoForum, a series of seminars and workshops aimed at providing technical training and skills development. Ar. Lesley Villanueva, Chairperson of Technoforum, welcomed attendees, stating, “Welcome to the Philconstruct 2024, now on its 35th year. So beginning today until Sunday, we will come together yet again to celebrate breakthroughs, collaboration, and the continuous growth of the construction industry.”
Villanueva stressed the importance of innovation: “As this year’s chairperson of TechnoForum, I am deeply honored to welcome you to Philconstruct’s 35th anniversary. TechnoForum, as its name suggests, is a forum centered on innovation and knowledge. we have always sought to bridge the gap between traditional practices and modern technology. So if you know the theme for this event, it is building 35 years of legacy through sustainable industry advancement. And this underscores our commitment to meet today’s demands and also to anticipate tomorrow’s needs. Our event provides a remarkable platform for us to explore the latest advancements, share our insights, and most of all, to inspire one another.”
She acknowledged the legacy of the event and her role in its future: “As a next-generation officer of the Philippine Constructors Association, I recognize the legacy I am tasked with continuing. Beyond showcasing technological advancements, Philconstruct 2024 also emphasized the importance of social responsibility. Ar. Weejee Decena, Chairperson of Estilo de Vida, spoke about the power of design to create a more inclusive society, stating, “Thoughtful design not only enhances aesthetics, but can profoundly impact lives, as seen in this year’s entries that showcase compassionate layouts aimed at easing daily life for seniors with dementia. Beyond celebrating talent, a steel of the need that sparks a crucial dialogue about the role of design in building a more inclusive society.”
Decena highlighted the importance of empathy in design: “As we address the needs of our elderly, we contribute to a culture of empathy, making every stage of life more dignified. Events like this inspire us all to consider how each space we create can nurture individuals and strengthen communities. This year, nearly 300 entries were submitted, reflecting an abundance of talent and dedication in our next generation of designers.”
She expressed gratitude for the support received: “To our partners, sponsors, and the Philippine Constructors Association, thank you for your steadfast support. This commitment to social responsibility was further exemplified by PCA’s new initiative, “Changing Lives,” a project aimed at improving the living conditions of underprivileged families. Engr. Elepaño Jr. elaborated on this initiative, stating, “I am honored to stand among remarkable individuals past, present, who prioritize the industry’s needs above their own. Today, it marks a very special occasion as we launch our annual CSR project in partnership with KBYN, led by our very own Kabayan Noli de Castro. This initiative called Changing Lives aims to spotlight the daily struggles and inspiring success stories of Filipinos, providing a platform for voices that resonate within our community and aligning perfectly the PCA’s mission to uplift and empower individuals through meaningful projects.”
He provided further details on the project: “KBYN is dedicated to addressing pressing social issues and improving living conditions for underserved communities. And by partnering with them, PCA reinforces its commitment to fostering community development and providing hope for a better future. Together, we will identify and select two families from the most disadvantaged backgrounds living in modest 25 square meter homes for a significant refurbishment to enhance their living conditions and overall quality of life. This CSR project will be launched as part of PCA’s 80th anniversary celebrations in 2025 with the refurbishment scheduled for the first and second quarter of that year followed by a comprehensive presentation during our anniversary gala. Let us continue to embrace the trends and technologies at PhilConstruct not only to boost the construction industry in the Philippines but to improve the lives of the Filipinos.”

Of course, we’d like to greet on the occasion of your 35th anniversary, the Philconstruct. Know that Pasay will always be a welcoming home to Philconstruct year after year. In a time where technology is always speaking and information is at our fingertips, the landscape of construction and infrastructure has taken flight onward and upward. and thanks to esteemed organizations and events such as Philconstruct were able to move parallel to this development and not be left behind.”
Pardo further emphasized the city’s commitment to progress and aligned it with Philconstruct’s vision: “In Pasay City, being the gateway to Metro Manila and the travel city, it is pivotal for us to always be one step amen In the arena of construction and development, especially in this crucial time where we are en route to our grand vision of becoming a smart and sustainable eco-city. DG Jose Francisco “Kiko” Benitez, Director General of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), delivered an inspirational message, highlighting the construction sector’s contribution to the economy: “I would like to congratulate you for the successful opening of the Phil Construct 2024 and for celebrating 35 years of legacy and excellence. I commend the PCA and PhilConstruct for creating this platform to advance innovation and collaboration in the construction industry, which is a vital engine for economic growth in the Philippines. The construction sector was among the main contributors to second quarter GDP growth, accounting for 16% of the growth. Meanwhile, in June 2004, the construction sector posted the largest annual increase in employment, with 938,000 Filipinos entering the workforce in construction. A clear indication of the sector’s capacity and potential to generate jobs and transform lives.”
Benitez also stressed the importance of a skilled workforce: “Together, let us continue to build a skilled workforce that will not only support but also drive the construction sector towards more prosperous and resilient buildings.”

Closing remarks by Engr. Emilio “Lilit” Tumbocon Chairman, Philiconstruct Events, Exhibitions and Conferences Corp (PEECC)
As Philconstruct 2024 concluded, Engr. Emilio “Lilit” Tumbocon, Chairman of Philiconstruct Events, Exhibitions and Conferences Corp (PEECC), reflected on the event’s journey: “It is a pleasure to see so many esteemed guests, valued colleagues and friends here with us today. Philconstruct is celebrating its 35th year, a truly remarkable milestone. As we conclude this opening ceremony, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the significance of our gathering. This event marks not only a new chapter for PhilConstruct but also a renewed commitment to excellence and innovation within our industry. 21 years ago, during my tenure as steward of the Philippine Constructors Association, we faced a critical dilemma regarding the future of PhilConstruct. We were grappling We were grappling with so many challenges and we were not sure at that point if Field Construct was even sustainable or if it accomplished its objectives, serving the industry. However, PCA restructured the Philconstruct event together with the Technoforum and Estilo de Vida series.”
He recounted the remarkable growth of the event: “With the support of the PCA board and membership, the various industry stakeholders and partners, the exhibits started to grow. From a mountain pop operation to a professionally run event. From less than 1,000 square meters to today 40,000 square meters of indoor and outdoor exhibition area. From a visitor of 900 in 1990 to 50,000 visitors expected to visit this year’s Fitness Run. We have truly come a long way. Our journey began with a clear purpose and a shared vision driven by a passion for the construction industry. Year after year, with the succeeding PCA leadership stewards, Philconstruct continued to grow, even reaching out and expanding coverage nationally, establishing regional Philconstruct events in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Today, we stand proud as we celebrate our 35 years of Philconstruct. Let’s give each other a big round of applause.”
He expressed optimism for the future, stating, “The journey ahead is filled with opportunities, and by working together, we can overcome any obstacles that may arise. I encourage all of you to engage actively and network with one another the next few days. Thank you once again for being here today.
