A Melody of Love and Second Chances
Shira’s musical journey began in family events, serenading guests with her singing talent. This passion blossomed into a professional career with the release of her debut single, “Pag-ibig,” in June 2023. The song, an exploration of the intense emotions surrounding unspoken love.
Shira’s heartfelt lyrics and the song’s melody capture the feels of unspoken love. Listeners who have ever yearned for someone, yet hesitated to reveal their true feelings, will find themselves drawn to the song’s honest portrayal of love’s bittersweet ache and the fear that often holds us back.
Following the success of “Pag-ibig,” Shira released her second single, “Laro,” in December. Composed by Joven Tan, “Laro” delves into the complexities of rekindled love and second chances. With its melody and lyrics, the song paints a picture of hope and healing, encouraging listeners to embrace the possibility of love’s renewal.
Balancing the Stage and Screen
Shira’s talent isn’t confined to the recording booth. She’s also a gifted actress, recently recognized with the Best New Female Actress award at the Philippine Movie Press Club’s (PMPC) 39th Star Awards. This award, received alongside fellow rising star Kai Flores who won the Best New Male Actor award, has only fueled Shira’s desire to excel in her craft.
“For me po personally, it’s not really pressure, it’s more of motivation,” Shira shares, reflecting on her win. “Especially natanggap po namin ‘yung ganoong title, so parang motivation ‘yun para magpatuloy pa to become better each and every project that we do.”
When asked about her preference between acting and singing, Shira emphasizes her commitment to both. “Ako po kasi, since I have two singles now, ‘yung plan ko po talaga is to continue both, as much as possible both talaga kasi pareho ko po silang passion. It makes me happy. It makes me happy every day na naiisip ko na, ‘Oh this is my work, this is what I do.”
Looking ahead, Shira is busy working on new music, hinting at a possible mini-album in collaboration with members of the girl group Gandaras. “Next month sana kung matatapos mo namin,” she reveals. “Actually, it’s by the help of Ate Christa and Ate Mira [members of Gandaras]. They helped me para mabuo po itong mini album na ito. And yung other projects po, under negotiation pa po.”
An Unexpected Crown
Shira’s journey has taken another unexpected turn with her recent crowning as Miss Mindanao. Though she admits to not being a pageant enthusiast, Shira embraced the opportunity with open arms.
“Actually, nagulat talaga ako kasi I was already crowned as Miss Mindanao,” she confesses. “It was last month, December, and yung experience ko na ito, it’s very surprising sa akin kasi, yun nga, I’m not really into pageants. But I’ve done pageants before. Mga school, elem pa ako. Elementary and grade 7, so twice ko na naexperience. Pero that made me realize na ayoko talaga mag-pageant.”
Despite her initial hesitation, Shira rose to the occasion, proving her ability to adapt and shine in any situation. “Pero ayun nga, since binigyan ako ng opportunity na bigla na lang nalaman ko na I’m already crowned, so why not take the opportunity? Syempre, I’m really thankful na ako yung pinili nila mismo to be Miss Mindanao.”
A Star is Born
Shira’s entry into the entertainment industry was as serendipitous as her pageant experience. From performing at family events as a young child to being discovered at a wedding, Shira’s path has been guided by a genuine love for entertaining.
“Okay, so, since I was 3 years old, nagpe-perform na po sa mga kasal kasi hindi po talaga ako naging mahiyaing bata,” she recounts. “So, way back sa Israel po, ayun nga, sa mga events ng friends ng parents ko, wala kong pakialam kung kasal nila or anything, basta kakanta na lang daw po ako. Sa gitna, may mga video pa actually. So, I’m really impressed sa sarili ko nung bata ako na wow, kasi hindi talaga nahihiya.”
This innate confidence and passion for performance caught the eye of Bambbi Fuentes, one of the heads of Dragons Talent Management, who saw Shira’s star potential. “I was just sitting there, minding my own business,” Shira remembers. “And then, ayun nga, sina Ms. Bambbi was there. And then, nakausap nila yung bride na parang they want me to join Dragons Talent Management. Hanggang doon nagsimula lahat.”
With the support of Dragons Talent Management and her own passion and dedication, Shira is ready to embrace the challenges and triumphs that lie ahead. As Bambbi Fuentes observes her talents, she wishes them to get their time to shine. Fuentes said, “Nakikita n’yo naman, they’re all talented. Sana in God’s perfect time, [they get a break].”
And for Shira Tweg, that time is hopefully now.
