Debbie Lopez, a familiar face in the cosplaying, is now making waves in the music scene. The Baguio-based artist, known for her portrayals of characters of animated or animé characters, recently launched her first Visayan single, “Ang Higugmaon Ka.”

Debbie transforms into different characters as a cosplayer:

“Ngayon, ano ako, so nervous, as in!” Lopez confessed, sharing her feelings about having grand press conference. “I’m so excited too.”

From the Visayas to the world

“Ang Higugmaon Ka,” composed by Bryan Balucan, is a love song that speaks of a secret love, hoping for reciprocation. The title translates to “Ang Mahalin Ka” in Tagalog, making its message of love accessible to a wider audience. Debbie showcased her vocals during her launch at Mellow D in Quezon City.

Music in her blood

Debbie’s musical journey began at the tender age of four during her family’s stay in Jamaica. Her mother, recognizing Debbie’s talent, enrolled her in an international music school. Music seems to be a family affair, with Debbie’s uncle, Dr. Noni Espina, being an internationally known musician and a significant influence on her career.

Her family, according to Debbie, is very proud of her success. “Proud sila, as in, super proud. Hindi nila inakala na darating ako sa ganito.”

More than just singing

“I’m a former live session music streamer in Star Maker and Kumu, currently an online radio DJ, a Spotify artist, music producer, and a local and international cosplayer. I’m a featured artist of Net25 and Radyo Agila,” Debbie shared, highlighting her range of talents.

Dreams of collaboration

Debbie has her sights set on future collaborations. In the acting world, she hopes to work with Empoy, saying, “Gusto ko rin umarte basta si Empoy [ang makakapartner]. Feel ko talaga ‘pag kami ni Empoy magkacollab, masaya. Panay tawa ako kapag ganun.” For her musical aspirations, Debbie is open about admiring Rico Blanco, confessing, “Siya ‘yung celebrity crush ko.” Debbie hopes to one day work with her crush.
