Sky Cable Corp. has announced a strategic partnership with Converge Information and Communications Technology Solutions, Inc., a leading fiber broadband provider in the Philippines. This collaboration aims to upgrade Sky’s network infrastructure and deliver faster, more reliable internet services to its subscribers.
Under this agreement, Sky Cable will leverage Converge’s extensive pure fiber network to enhance the internet experience for new and existing Sky Fiber customers. Sky Chairman Mark Lopez highlighted the benefits of this partnership, stating, “Converge has built a superior, state-of-the-art fiber network nationwide that Sky customers will soon experience.”
Sky’s President and Chief Operations Officer, Claudia Suarez, emphasized that this initiative aligns with Sky’s transformation plan focused on improving its products and services. “Through the arrangement with Converge, we expect Sky and its subscribers to benefit from the world-class fiber network that Converge has built over the last few years,” Suarez said.
Converge’s President and Co-Founder, Maria Grace Uy, noted that this partnership would maximize Converge’s network utilization and boost revenue. “This will be a revenue boost for Converge consistent with similar arrangements with other players as we are able to continue to monetize further our excess network capacity,” she explained.
Converge boasts the largest fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network in the Philippines, with over eight million ports and a fiber footprint extending over 700,000 kilometers, reaching 16 million homes nationwide. As of March 2024, Converge serves 2.3 million residential broadband subscribers across the country.
Dennis Anthony Uy, Converge’s CEO and Co-Founder, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. “As everyone knows, the first business that I built on my own was in cable television, and with the increasing availability of fiber technology in the early 2000s outside the Philippines, my wife Grace and I decided to enter the fixed broadband business. So, I’m really excited that we are able to help Sky, the leader in the cable business, in its own transformation program by providing them the latest optical fiber technology,” Uy said.
Converge’s Chief Operations Officer, Jesus Romero, assured that Sky subscribers would enjoy improved broadband speeds and connectivity with the enhanced fiber infrastructure. “We are confident that Sky subscribers will have a better experience with faster broadband speeds with fiber connectivity,” Romero commented.
Carlo Katigbak, president and CEO of ABS-CBN and a director at Sky, expressed optimism about the partnership’s impact. “We believe that this is the best way to move forward and stay focused on delivering superior customer experience,” Katigbak stated.
Beyond network enhancements, Sky’s transformation program also focuses on increasing operational efficiency, ensuring financial discipline, and implementing organizational improvements. Uy concluded by encouraging other industry players to adopt similar business models, underscoring Converge’s commitment to providing world-class connectivity to all Filipinos and ensuring no one is left behind in the digital age.
