An hour before South Korean star Lee Seung-gi’s arrival at the private Platinum Skies Aviation hangar, former Ilocos Sur governor and businessman Luis “Chavit” Singson granted an interview with the media. The politician-businessman explained the purpose of the international star’s visit to the Philippines aside from his “Lee Seung-gi Asia Tour Concert: The Dreamer’s Dream” commitment last May 27 at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City. Lee’s last concert in the country was in 2019 but he was here last March for a quick Ilocos visit.

“Siya ang kasama na nation sa entertainment company ng LCS dahil mag-dedevelop kami ng Little Seoul. Magtatayo rin ng golf course sa Vigan,” Singson shared. “Maraming gagawin dito. Pabalik-pabalik na siya dito,” he added. Singson also verified TV Patrol correspondent Mario Dumaual’s clarification on Lee finalizing location shoots and business ventures in the Philippines upon his arrival. “Yes, yes. Halu-halo na ‘yun. That is part of the group of company, investors. Isa sa ginagawa namin ngayon, pagpili ng mga mate-train sa Korea,” the business mogul added. He went on to clarify that the trainings will not be limited to entertainers but will also be available for skilled workers. Singson shared that he has a number of companies in South Korea.

At around 6PM, Lee arrived via a private plane and was warmly welcomed by the members of the media. He joined Singson in a quick and intimate press conference at the hangar. “He really loves the Philippines,” Lee’s interpreter began. In Korean, Lee talked about solidifying his attachment to Filipino fans. He suddenly spoke in English and talked about his concert the next day, “I’m really excited. I prepared a lot. 14 songs.” His interpreter chimed in, “This time, he’s really having a concert.” Lee is considering singing a Filipino song in his next visit.

“As a singer, we’ll try to come to the Philippines more often and it’s kind of early to tell but we’re preparing for a special project with the Philippines. When it’s ready, we’re going to announce it,” Lee said through an interpreter. He also talked more about his Ilocos visit early this year. “He was here for travel and he was surprised that a lot of people recognized him so he was really enjoying that moment,” his interpreter added. Lee also said that he found Vigan beautiful and is eyeing it as a location for a variety show. It is also notable that Lee expressed love for local Filipino food.

“He really enjoyed shooting for Bro Marble and if it goes to Season 2, then maybe the Philippines and Vigan City may be the right place to shoot in,” the interpreter did the translation when Lee was asked about the travel variety show.

While Singson and Lee choose to keep mum about other business partnerships under negotiation, they can only share that exciting times are ahead. It does look like we will be seeing more of Lee Seung-gi and other South Korean stars in the country.
