Spotify’s Kalye Hiphop nominated in the 26th Webbys
The Webby Awards, the undisputed top honor for the best of the Internet, has nominated Spotify’s Kalye Hip-Hop campaign, one of only two nominees from the Philippines.
From over 14,000 global entries submitted, only less than 12% were selected as nominees, according to the Webbys. Spotify is among the brands and platforms earning the highest number of nominations this year, alongside Netflix, Apple, National Geographic, and HBO.
Spotify’s Kalye Hip-Hop is currently in the lead for People’s Voice Award under the Advertising, Media and PR category. There are a few more days left to vote, so let’s make sure the Philippine entry keeps the top spot! You can register and vote now until April 21 at bit.ly/KalyeHipHopWebby.
Spotify, together with its creative agency TBWA\SMP, launched the Kalye Hip-Hop campaign, which turned millions of YouTube watchers into Spotify streamers. The idea was spot on: using the competition itself, and turning it into the platform that would actually bring fans to Spotify.
Kalye Hip-Hop leveraged on a popular music genre that has been dominating the local music scene with a new generation of artists — Pinoy Hip-Hop. In the campaign, local hip-hop stars on Spotify like Karencitta, Matthaios, Peaceful Gemini, Nik Makino, VVS Collective and ALLMO$T took over YouTube in a series of edgy videos on their life and music defined by the streets.
The artists themselves invited fans to stop watching their videos on YouTube, and listen to the Kalye Hip-Hop playlist on Spotify instead.
The purely Pinoy Kalye Hip-Hop playlist moved to the Top 3 charts in the Philippines, joining the ranks of international playlists.
Artists featured in the campaign also hit their highest stream and follower count, making them the fastest-rising artists in the Pinoy music scene.
