One look at Hazel Chua’s before-and-after photo reminded us of the Korean film 200-Pound Beauty. But unlike the lead character Hannah who went under the knife, Hazel worked her way out to a major transformation. She may not have been named the first ever Pinoy Biggest Loser, but this 5th placer has every reason to feel like a winner.
Aside from the Php 500,000 cash prize, here are Hazel’s other takeaways from her BL journey:
DISCIPLINE and HEALTHY LIFESTYLE
Months inside the Biggest Loser camp gave Hazel and the other contestants the once-in-a-lifetime privilege to receive training from fitness experts Chinggay Andrada and Jim Saret. They were also given proper nutrition advice by the resident nutritionist Nadine Tengco.

SELF-CONFIDENCE and SELF-RESPECT
In Hazel’s speech at The Biggest Loser Grand Ball, she revealed how she considered herself as someone with the “ugly duckling syndrome” and wanted to just be invisible most of the time. Thanks to her camp experience, losing the excess pounds allowed her to gain confidence and self-respect.

Prior to joining The Biggest Loser, Hazel was already blessed to have so much love from her family. It was just a wonderful bonus that the certified SSB (Single Since Birth) finally found herself a loving partner in fellow contestant Raffy Tan. As Hazel shared in her presentation speech,“Natutunan kong mahalin yung sarili ko. At dahil dun, natuto akong magmahal at mahalin.”
