For every Filipino, there seems to be a story tied to a Regal film. For 90s kids like myself, the spine-tingling chills of the “Shake, Rattle, and Roll” series evoke a wave of nostalgia. Meanwhile, Gen-Z audiences find themselves captivated by Regal’s contemporary anthology series on GMA. Regal Entertainment has undeniably etched its presence into the hearts of Filipinos, and its legacy persists, even after the recent passing of its matriarch, Mother Lily Monteverde.
Regal Entertainment: Celebrating 60 Years and Beyond
Recently, Regal Entertainment, the Philippines’ venerable film production house, commemorated over six decades of cinematic contributions with a lavish event at 38 Valencia Events Place. The celebration showcased the company’s rich history and unveiled its exciting future endeavors under new stewardship.
The event marked the introduction of Roselle Monteverde as president and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), along with Keith Monteverde as Executive Vice President (EVP). In her heartfelt welcome address, Roselle and her siblings pledged to carry forward Mother Lily Monteverde’s legacy and continue serving the Filipino audience.
“We all recognize the profound impact Mother Lily has had on countless lives,” Roselle shared. “I’m overjoyed to have my friends from the entertainment industry present, particularly the artists who have supported us throughout the years. On behalf of Regal Entertainment and my siblings – my brother Dondon, my sister Sherida, and Goldwin Monteverde – we have resolutely decided to not only express but also actively embody Mother Lily’s legacy.”
Roselle emphasized their commitment to nurturing the seeds sown by Mother Lily over 60 years, from her early days as a film enthusiast and distributor to her remarkable accomplishments as a film producer. She underscored their dedication to preserving the values instilled by their parents, recognizing that Mother Lily’s influence extended beyond Regal to encompass the entire film industry. “This is Mother Lily’s legacy, and now it’s ours,” Roselle affirmed.
A Legacy of Cinematic Brilliance
Established in 1962 by Mother Lily and her husband, Remy Monteverde, Regal Entertainment boasts a prolific catalog of over 700 feature-length films. The company’s initial triumphs stemmed from distributing foreign films, which paved the way for Mother Lily’s foray into local film production in 1976. Regal ascended to prominence, delivering iconic franchises such as “Shake, Rattle & Roll” and “Mano Po.”
The event paid homage to Mother Lily’s profound contributions to the film industry through a poignant presentation featuring clips from her films and a captivating showcase of Regal’s history through memorabilia and installations. A generous P1 million donation was also made to the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (MOWELFUND) in her honor.
The Legacy Continues
Regal Entertainment unveiled three new films: “Guilty Pleasure,” “My Future You,” and “Untold,” showcasing its commitment to diverse genres spanning drama, romance, and horror.
“Guilty Pleasure,” a social romantic drama helmed by Connie Macatuno, features Lovi Poe, JM De Guzman, and a talented ensemble cast. The film delves into the intricate lives of three lawyers grappling with love, betrayal, and ambition.
