Remember this APEC 1996 TV commercial? If you were born in the ’90s, this was probably one of your favorite LSS those days. You probably had the same hopes, dreams and ideologies Cris Villonco and I had back then:

“Paglaki ko, mas mataas ang tingin sa Pilipino. Kahit anong bansa ang dayuhin, malugod akong tatanggapin…”

I remember singing this in school, at home and with my playmates. I remember performing this as a group activity in our Araling Panlipunan class in front of my classmates.

The ad was so iconic and the message, powerful.

10 years after, did the Philippines already achieved so much?

This Monday will be the start of the 2016 APEC Summit in Manila with 20 head states confirmed to attend. Here’s to hoping the summit will bring positive changes for the country and the region.
