Directed by Jun Robles Lana, the box-office hit premiered on Netflix on August 27 and quickly captured the hearts of Filipino viewers with its heartwarming and relatable story of motherhood. The film explores the countless sacrifices, unconditional love, and complexities that come with being a mother, themes that have allowed it to connect with audiences both in cinemas and on streaming.
“Call Me Mother” previously earned four honors at the 51st Metro Manila Film Festival Gabi ng Parangal. Vice Ganda won Best Actor, while Lucas Andalio received the Best Child Performer award. The film also took home 3rd Best Picture and the Gender Sensitivity Award.
The film earned a worldwide gross of P392 million during its theatrical run and was later selected as the opening film of the Philippines-Japan Film Festival 2026, further adding to its growing list of achievements.
In “Call Me Mother,” Vice Ganda portrays a queer mother to her adopted son, Angelo, played by Lucas Andalio. Their unbreakable bond is challenged when Mara, Angelo’s biological mother, portrayed by Nadine Lustre, enters their lives and seeks custody of her child.
