Whether you are a Korean drama fan or not, Viu Philippines’ newest original series titled “K-Love” is something you have to watch out for after a long work week.

Streaming every Friday starting October 14, K-Love is a breather that we’ve long waited, paying homage to K-Drama fans, as each episode promises funny banters among its characters giving off that feel-good vibe.

Joining the stellar cast including Iza Calzado, Jake Cuenca, Isabelle Daza, Sue Ramirez and theater actress Gabby Padilla are award-winning creatives headed by creator Corinna Vistan, who previously worked at Marvel Studios as a Content Producer with record-setting blockbusters such as Avengers: Endgame and Ant-Man under her belt and seven-time Emmy-award winning director Bobby Yan.

In a media conference and movie screening held on October 8 at Greenbelt 3, Corinna said that K-Love is the first concept that she pitched when she became Head of Content Development for Viu Philippines, “I came home from the U.S. thinking all my friends were going to ask me about my experience working on Avengers: Endgame. But all they could talk about was their fascination with Korean dramas! I realised that similarly, K-Dramas had their own set of hardcore die-hard fans. This world really interested me so I wrote the concept for K-Love.

“I feel like K-Love is really a love letter to K-Drama fans that we’re doing a series about them,” she added. “I think what’s really special about the show is that, it’s for the fans. But if you’re not into K-Drama or wondering what it is about the Korean drama phenomenon that makes it special that people are so obsessed with it, I think this is the perfect show to really explain why people love K-Drama as well.”

The 18-episode series, which will be simulcasted in 16 markets across Asia, the Middle East, and South Africa, will mirror the drama fans as it centers on five friends called K-Squad and their stories: Tish, Jay, Shiela, Val, and Frances. One thing that drives all of them despite leading various lives and facing various challenges – their love for the drama.

Asked what lessons their characters best taught them, Iza, who’s playing the role of Tish, the driven woman who strives hard in every career pursuit that she has, but needs a little help in the love department, quickly points out the importance of finding one’s voice and empowering one’s self.

For Isabelle, breathing life to Shiela,  a full-time mom-fluencer and wife who always pursues perfection, her biggest takeaway is that, “relationships take work and you need to put in the time, whether it’s with your daughter, whether it’s your mother, you need to also adjust because people have different personalities.”

With Jay, a dapper guy and son of a wealthy tycoon and Tish’s high school sweetheart, Jake was able to realize that when “you want something, you have to go and take it. Because there’s someone right there who’s gonna take it from you.”

Sue, playing the role of Val, a young Fil-Am fashionista-slash-entrepreneur whose mission is to take on the male-dominated tech world, says, “pride can only get you so far. It’s actually the help of the people around you, when you allow them to help you, that will really get you much farther in life.”

For her part, Gabby learned from Frances, being the product of the ideal happy family, holds such high standards for guys, aiming for that ultimate ‘Oppa’ she sees in dramas, that, “you can have a clear picture of how you want your life to look like, you can plan your life to the tee, but life will always have other ideas and sometimes, it’s a lot better than what you actually imagined.”

The team behind this must-watch series brought their A-game as they strut the runway during Saturday’s screening.
