The familiar idea that contrasting personalities draw each other together forms the heart of many romantic stories. “Avenues of the Diamond,” the latest entry in the popular University Series, presents this concept through the arranged marriage of Sam and Clyden. But do the actors playing these roles really believe in this idea?

At a recent press event, Aubrey Caraan and Lance Carr, who play Sam and Clyden, shared their thoughts. Their characters begin their journey forced into a union, navigating their opposing natures and the feelings that arise.

Two Sides of the Same Coin

“I do think people with different personalities can make a relationship work,” Lance stated. “If they can handle their differences and agree on what they both want, it can succeed.”

Aubrey’s view differed. “I’m not so sure. I think it’s easier to connect with someone who likes the same things and shares your values. It feels more natural.”

These contrasting opinions reflect the core conflict in “Avenues of the Diamond.” Clyden is intelligent but reserved, while Sam is outgoing and lively. Their differing traits create conflict but also add a rich emotional layer to their story. Beyond the romance, the actors talked about their on-screen connection.

Building a Connection

Lance, taking on his first leading role, spoke about creating a comfortable environment for his co-star. “This is her first time in a romantic pairing, so I’ve focused on making her feel at ease. We have many emotional scenes, and I want her to feel safe and supported,” he said.

Aubrey described the experience as a lesson in openness. “I used to keep my feelings inside because I didn’t want to bother anyone. But this project taught me that my feelings matter. It’s okay to share them,” she explained.

Beyond Romance: Finding Yourself

“Avenues of the Diamond” focuses on love but also explores themes of ambition, friendship, and personal growth. Director Gino Cruz emphasized the importance of staying true to the original story while deepening its meaning.

“This series looks at many personal struggles. Sam’s character, for example, is not just about romance—she’s also figuring out what she wants from life. I think many young people can relate to that,” the director said.

“Avenues of the Diamond” will be available for streaming on Viva One starting April 11.
