Atok’s untapped beauty shines in Gabby Ramos’ ‘When Magic Hurts’

Originally planning to film abroad, Ramos’ vision took an unexpected turn. A quest for an evocative provincial setting led him to the unspoiled beauty of Atok. Discovering hidden gems far exceeding the allure of popular foreign tourist destinations, Ramos proudly declares, “When you see this film, you can take pride in knowing it was shot by Filipinos, created within the Philippines.”
The film’s production mirrored the unpredictable nature of life itself. Typhoons raged outside while cameras rolled within, a testament to the unwavering dedication of the cast and crew. Timing was key, aimed to capture the fleeting bloom of flowers rarely seen on screen.
The bond between Orquia and Magtalas, fostered during Star Magic workshops, blossoms on-screen. Orquia beams about her co-star, “It’s a joy to work with Beaver. He’s so professional and always eager to learn.” For the shy and introverted Magtalas, this leading role – though nerve-wracking – is an opportunity to grow. “My co-stars were my strength,” he admits, “with their support, I could find the confidence to give my best.”
