In a fun press conference held last March 21, where laughter was the order of the day, Alex Calleja and his hilarious ensemble, The Comedy Crew, excitedly announced their plans to bring peals of laughter to their fans in Singapore and Dubai. The atmosphere was light, with each comedian gamely showcasing their humor, making it clear they are all set to entertain their international audience.

In a grand move for Filipino stand-up comedy, Alex, alongside key members of The Comedy Crew, including Israel Buenaobra, Jeps Gallon, and Mak Navares, are set to perform in Dubai during the celebrated Dubai Comedy Festival. This marks a historic first as they bring a stand-up comedy show performed in Filipino to Dubai’s shores.

Alex shared the motivation behind choosing to perform in Filipino, “Originally, it’s in English, but many OFWs watch us online using pieces in Tagalog, so we want them to hear it live, and also, to help with the homesickness of our kababayans who miss hearing Tagalog.” This move aims to resonate with the Filipino expatriate community, offering them a slice of home through humor.

Furthermore, Alex and The Comedy Crew will have the honor of being the first all-Filipino comedians to grace the grand stage of Dubai Opera. Alex conveyed the mixed feelings of pressure and pride, stating, “Pressured but proud, since we will be able to represent our comedy style in Dubai.”

The much-anticipated comedy show at Dubai Opera is scheduled for April 13, 2024, with tickets still up for grabs at dubaicomedyfest.ae.

But before they dazzle Dubai, Alex and The Comedy Crew, including Israel Buenaobra, Jeps Gallon, Mak Navares, and Imah Dumagay, performed at Comedy Masala in Singapore last March 25 and 26, 2024. The excitement for these performances was evident as tickets quickly sold out!

With these international tours, Alex expressed his hope for broader recognition and opportunities for Filipino comedians, particularly for The Comedy Crew, aiming “to spread Pinoy comedy all over the world.”

In preparation for their global laughter tour, Alex Calleja also announced the launch of The Comedy Crew’s official website. This platform will feature profiles of its 18 comedians from various backgrounds, showcasing their talent and announcing show and open mic schedules. This development makes it simpler for fans to stay updated on their favorite comedians’ performances.
