Sa buhay aangat, winner tayong lahat,” this line from the program’s jingle perfectly captures the essence of hope and what the whole mission is all about. The newly launched public service program, “Si Manoy ang Ninong Ko,” made a remarkable debut on GMA last Sunday (March 3), bringing stories of hope, resilience, and the spirit of “bayanihan” to the forefront. Hosted by television personalities Gelli de Belen, Patricia Tumulak, and Sherilyn Reyes-Tan, along with the former businessman turned public servant, Agri Party-list Rep. Wilbert T. Lee, popularly known as Manoy, the show captivated audiences with its inaugural episode.

At Limbaga 77 restaurant in Quezon City last week, during the show’s media conference, Manoy Wilbert reflected on the show’s mission and shared how “Si Manoy ang Ninong Ko” aims to showcase the real-life stories of our fellow countrymen, encouraging viewers to strive for success, remain perseverant, and never lose hope in the face of adversity. He emphasized the importance of community support and the innate kindness of Filipinos towards each other in overcoming life’s challenges.

Gelli De Belen, a veteran actress and host, highlighted the show’s commitment to providing beneficiaries with more than just temporary relief. According to her, the program focuses on offering sustainable solutions that enable individuals to support themselves and thrive over time.

The show’s format involves featuring two beneficiary groups each week, with hosts Patricia and Sherilyn visiting the sites to engage with the beneficiaries directly. Through these visits, they aim to understand the unique challenges faced by each group, offering a platform for their stories to be heard and addressing their needs with practical solutions.

Patricia Tumulak discussed the importance of empathetic listening as a form of assistance, underscoring the program’s dedication to thoroughly analyzing each case to find the best way to help. Meanwhile, Sherilyn Reyes-Tan stressed the goal of transcending immediate aid by creating opportunities for long-term self-sufficiency.

In its pilot episode, the show tackled the issues facing onion farmers in Pangasinan and volunteer sea guardians in Orani, Bataan. With Manoy Wilbert, Gelli, Patricia, and Sherilyn at the helm, “Si Manoy ang Ninong Ko” set a strong foundation for its mission of bringing light and assistance to those in need, embodying the true essence of Filipino community spirit and compassion.
