‘OPM Stars’ concert brings together industry icons for a night of music and nostalgia
Philippine music industry experts and seasoned artists often label the ’70s and ’80s as the Golden Age of Original Pilipino Music (OPM), attributing this to two main factors.
For one, during that period, numerous OPM artists demonstrated remarkable productivity and creativity, producing a string of hits that became musical treasures. These artists not only matched but even surpassed foreign recordings in terms of popularity and sales.
Secondly, OPM dominated the radio waves, thanks to government support that significantly enhanced the appeal and reach of OPM records.
Although the ’70s and ’80s have long passed, the music from that era continues to resonate through the enduring popularity of its artists.
A nostalgic celebration of this musical era is set to unfold in the one-night live concert, “OPM Stars,” scheduled for 8 p.m. on February 21 at The Theater at Solaire. The event will showcase local artists who thrived during the heyday of OPM.
These artists, including Jun Polistico, Leah Navarro, Sampaguita, Anthony Castelo, Gino Padilla, Mon Espia of Labuyo, Male Rigor, and Monet Gaskell (formerly of VST and Company), will transport the audience back in time as they perform their greatest hits in a rare, one-night tribute to the Golden Age of Filipino music.
Sharing the stage with them are OPM hitmakers Richard Reynoso, Renz Verano, Rannie Raymundo, and Chad Borja, accompanied by Wadab singer-songwriters Nonoy Tan and Rey Magtoto.
The event, titled “OPM Stars,” is presented by Zonta Club of Muntinlupa and Environs Foundation, Inc., Zonta Club of Makati Legaspi, and Zonta International District 17 Area 5.
Tickets for “OPM Stars” can be purchased at all Ticket World outlets, Solaire Box Office (8888-8888 local 60134), Zonta Club of Muntinlupa and Environs Foundation, Inc. (0916-2371852, look for Ellen Del Rosario).
