I always thought that having a bowl of authentic Japanese ramen would cost me an arm and a leg. It was a nice suprise to discover Kyukyu Ramen 99 at Starmall EDSA Shaw which offers authentic ramen for just a fraction of the usual price. The brand currently has a growing number of branches all over the metro. And the man behind its success? Entrepreneur-and-stunt director Lester Pimentel Ong (He has worked for numerous TV shows like ABS-CBN’s La Luna Sangre and Bagani!).

Direk Lester is part of the Binondo Food Group, a multi-brand group behind Wangfu Chinese Cafe, Kyu Kyu Ramen 99, Luna J Filipino Gastropub, and RBX Rice in a Box.

Direk Lester and his business partner shared with us their journey in coming up with a quick-service restaurant that offers authentic Japanese ramen. It took months of research and sourcing of suppliers to finally offer Filipinos the unique experience at 1/5 of the usual price of good ramen. When I finally got to try what Kyukyu Ramen 99 has to offer, the brand exceeded my expectations.

I am definitely going back to have this signature ramen (for only Php99!). It tastes authentic, comparable to the ones sold in Japan, and it is filling. I find the thin, angel hair noodles easier to consume.
I’m not into spicy food but guess what, I finished a bowl of this spicy ramen!
They got matcha ice cream with black jelly or red bean! LEGIT <3
This one’s the special variant that’s priced a little higher but definitely worth it.
