Amid a recent controversy, Vice Ganda, known as the country’s Unkabogable Star, topnotch comedian, and co-host of It’s Showtime, exhibited a commendable display of humility. The incident involved a public apology to fellow co-host Anne Curtis, stemming from a joke made during the show’s January 20th episode, related to his endorsement of a fast-food chain.

Vice Ganda and Anne Curtis both serve as endorsers for different fast-food chains in the Philippines, and the comedian found himself publicly expressing remorse on his social media account, X (formerly Twitter). In his apology, Vice clarified that there was no intention to violate Anne’s endorsement contract and sincerely regretted any discomfort caused by his jest.

“I put Anne in an uncomfortable situation. Wrong. Sorry,” Vice conveyed.

The controversial joke, which involved Vice playfully requesting Anne to repeat words from his own endorsements, sparked mixed reactions on social media. Criticism emerged, with some suggesting that the joke could potentially jeopardize Anne’s deal with a local fast-food chain.

Despite the varying opinions, fans of both hosts expressed hopes that the incident wouldn’t strain their relationship. Anne reassured their supporters, characterizing it as a “lapse of judgment” on both their parts.

“Morning everyone. Guys, kalma. No need for such negative energy. Vice and I are fine. It was a lapse of judgment on both sides. At least we can move forward and be keyrfuul. Ganyan ang biriun backstage but syempre dapat iba pag on air. Kaya kalma. It’s a beautiful day. Gawin na lang #BidaAngSaya every day! ✨HAHAHAHA,” Anne wrote.

Vice, in response, reposted Anne’s tweet and extended a sincere apology while explaining the backstage dynamics.

The comedian clarified to the Madlang People on X that his intention was solely to bring laughter to everyone.

“It was our usual “brandagulan” moment na late nya narealize so nasabi nya ung tagline ng di nya namalayan. I apologized to her And pinagtawanan n lng namin. Our sisterhood will always be Nice Ganda,” Vice said.

“Pero ganun talaga sa comedy man o sa real life talagang hit and miss. And we’ll just have to try again,” he added.

The statement from the It’s Showtime hosts was made on X (formerly Twitter) a day after the controversial incident. In case you missed it, social media users had called out Vice Ganda on January 20 for a playful trick on Anne Curtis during the “EXpecially for you” segment, wherein she inadvertently mentioned a rival brand’s tagline.

In the age of cancel culture and social media imaging, Vice’s quick decision to be accountable and responsible for his actions is worthy of emulation.
