“I feel so honored. Just now, I really wanted to cry. I am very new to composition and for my song to be able to be used in a popular drama series like this is really shocking for me. I really want to thank ABS-CBN for this opportunity. That really motivates me to write more,” shared Zhang YiFei, the accomplished Singaporean visual and musical artist, and founder of the Academy of Rock, during a recent Zoom interview with the press. One of her musical masterpieces was featured in The Broken Marriage Vow, ABS-CBN’s local remake of the hit TV series Doctor Foster. YiFei is currently the business partner of Filipino actors Enchong Dee and Joshua Garcia as they invested in Academy of Rock.

YiFei, a gifted composer and self-taught visual artist, is set to make her mark with a newly launched captivating 7-song instrumental EP, titled ‘Me & Me.’ For her, passion and perseverance know no age limits. “Age is but a number,” she said.

Hailing from a diverse and creative background, the 54-year-old has always had a strong interest in art, immersing herself in various forms, visual and musical. After years of dedicated practice, perseverance, and soulful expression, she has discovered her true artistic talents and is ready to unleash her work upon the world.

Despite grappling with dyslexia since childhood and enduring carpal tunnel syndrome for over five years, Zhang YiFei’s determination to pursue her artistic dreams remains unshaken. The seven original instrumental tracks featured in ‘Me & Me’ beautifully showcase her unique style, seamlessly blending classical elements with modern influences and drawing inspiration from her personal experiences and the world around her. Each composition possesses a spellbinding narrative and evokes a diverse spectrum of emotions.

As a classically trained instrumentalist, Zhang YiFei’s music paints pictures, tells tales, and stirs the soul without the need for lyrics. She  masterfully captures the essence of the human experience, and ‘Me & Me’ promises to be a transformative musical experience that will leave an indelible mark on the hearts of all who listen.

When asked who among talented Filipino artists she would love to collaborate with, YiFei was quick to name her friends Yeng Constantino and Jonathan Manalo.
