Meet ‘Mang Kanor’: Rez Cortez bags his first-ever lead role
An icon in the Philippine movie industry, seasoned actor Rez Cortez finally gets top billing in a movie. The perennial antagonist and supporting actor portrays the role of the infamous “Mang Kanor” produced by AQ.
“Talaga namang dapat nakakadiri si Mang Kanor,” Cortez said during the post-screening press conference of his movie. He matter-of-factly yet laughingly referred to his bulging tummy in the movie.
In case you missed it, the term “Mang Kanor” came about when a man in real life went viral with video scandals. The movie, inspired by the concept, relays the story of an aged restaurateur who ends up getting embroiled in a scandal when his sex videos with women he helped monetarily were leaked.
Since the MTRCB or Movie and Television Review and Classification Board has no jurisdiction over streaming platforms, the unabridged copy of the movie will be streamed on AQ Prime app. Cortez is thrilled that the film industry is starting to get back on track as projects are cropping up left and right, giving livelihood to a lot of workers.
While his immediate family lovingly refuses to watch the film given the nature of the scenes, Rez is grateful for the opportunity to give life to Mang Kanor and send out an important message to netizens that recording sensitive and intimate acts is risky and can potentially ruin lives.
