Actress Gretchen Barretto took to Instagram her apology to niece Claudia after reacting negatively last Friday to the latter’s presscon interview. In the said interview during her debut single launch two weeks ago, Claudia was asked for her reaction on the possibility of being compared to her aunt Gretchen who is also a recording artist. In a reply to a netizen who informed Gretchen that the younger Barretto allegedly called her “someone else,” the actress referred to her niece as an ungrateful child and reminded that she has previously covered for the financial needs of Claudia’s family for a few years. This is based on the screenshots published by Philippine Entertainment Portal (pep.ph).

A few hours ago, Gretchen posted this on Instagram and asked for her niece’s forgiveness. Gretchen shared that her daughter Dominique Cojuangco was instrumental in her effort to reach out and apologize.

I’m currently in Hong Kong for the weekend ,I was hoping to enjoy but no matter what I do , I realize that I am hurting & in the process, I have deeply hurt the ones I love dearly … my daughter , Dominique gave me a call yesterday to please reach out to claui & understand her & forgive her , claui is considered Dominique’s little sister & I consider claui my very own child .. I am learning the very painful way that as a mother , we must be selfless, we must forgo Hurt , disappointment, we must be more understanding & patient ,,, we must ignore the pain that our children make us feel , we must embrace them through their flaws & love them UNCONDITIONALLY. I Do not want my claui to be Bashed in any way … I Beg for Understanding & forgiveness… please allow us all to Heal peacefully… I ask for forgiveness from my Instagram followers for spreading hurt & bitterness on my post .i ask for forgiveness from claui for making her go through this hurt🙏 Dominique my little one , you make me human in spite of all the pain , Thank you & I Love you will never be enough ❤️

Claudia left a comment for her “Mama” Gretchen:

Thank you for this post. I just want you to know that what I said was never meant to offend you nor disrespect you. It was maliciously and wrongfully viewed by the user who decided to take my comment largely out of context. As you know, I’m only starting my career and have yet to truly showcase my intelligence. It’s difficult to do that now because of how nervous I can get sometimes when I’m asked questions. I have yet to get used to it and have yet to learn how to use the correct words. However, I still believe that what I said was not wrong. I hope you see the video, mama.

The video uploader Chikkaness Ave also released a statement on his Instagram account:

This happened at the #ClaudiaBarrettoBlogcon for Claudia’s debut hit single “Stay.” I asked her if she’s ready to be compared to her aunt Gretchen (specifically their singing voices) as the latter also had an album before. Claudia replied in verbatim, “I think we’re very different naman like our songs, our voice, I think it’s different. I don’t mind. I mean that’s nice to know that someone else actually sings.” While answering, I saw the delight and sense of pride in her eyes. Her face lit up when I asked that question. If you will watch the video, I do not feel that she disrespected her aunt with her answer (or any intent to do so) with the way she delivered it and just because of the use of the words “someone else.” I hope we do not put malice on her statement.
